"Can you smell the fear?", do the other football codes in Australia (AFL,NRL), genuinely fear football?

The AFL obviously knows that we have the advantage of international competition.

However that advantage which comes around every 4 years hasn't made a lasting impact on football's local popularity as measured by viewership and investmen, despite 6 WC's in a row.

In fact it could be argued its regressed.

AFL, on the other hand goes from strength to strength. They do not fear us.
Spoken like a person from Southern states.
The game of football has grown massively in the last 30 years, if you can't see that, that is your fault
The recent WC was massive, never seen interest that big, the Matildas are also massive, the Asian cup and Olympics are also followed
The O/S competitions are followed with 80K to 100k attending.
I see more kids with premier league kits than any AFL merch.
Lots of NRL fans and players follow EPL sides.

The AFL 'soccer bashing' journalists don't really need to do it...
The bottom-line is, they wouldn’t if they genuinely didn’t believe ⚽️ poses any level of existential-threat whatsoever to them..💡

It’s literally the 🇦🇺 domestic sporting-landscape equivalent of the bit in Batman vs. Superman where Ben Affleck as Bruce Wayne comes out w/this zinger(@ 1:16-1:24 of the vid):

Nothing more or less than any other mouthpiece feeding at the football trough. His opinions on all things Australian Football certainly changed when he was no longer financially dependant on first Fox and then Paramount.. I wonder if he still thinks there will NEVER be such a thing as an Asian South Melbourne Hellas fan? hahahaha
Shock horror! I think most people are somewhat muzzled by their employer while they are working for them and being able to more freely express your opinions after moving on is normal no?
What an awful thing for him to say! As an Asian I’m deeply offended (not!).
Are there many Asians at South Melbourne games? I doubt it

I am not sure if you realise or not, but 170,000 paying fans sitting in stadium watching a sport dont really care if it is played in any other country or in any other city.

Being a self proclaimed "sports' fan and also being proud of your ignorance of a major Australian sport is sort of a paradox wouldn't you say?
No, not really, I follow the biggest and best sport in the world, I follow the Socceroos, Matildas, Sydney FC, Derby County, Portugal, Porto, the PL, LA Liga and all the Aussies playing O/S. Leaves little time for other sports, but I enjoy Rugby Union, swimming, cycling and fleeting Rugby league.

The NRL has the highest TV ratings on Australian sport, but you dislike the game. So maybe you should concern yourself of your own paradox.

It’s literally the only thing I envy you lot up north for, although the holistic merit of the continued NSW/Sydney-centricness of 🇦🇺⚽️ in this day&age is a separate discussion for another day💡

I must admit to noticing a fair few at South’s Australia Cup home-games these past two months actually, as w/the Australian Championship last year. Plus the Paramount coverage of the last match vs. Preston zeroed in on this one particular Asian chick behind the goals😍

Exciting stuff!

Spot on re being mouth pieces where the bucks come from.
No doubt he’s a likeable bloke but he always feared losing his gig !
Same applies to all them on Fox I know Slater got sick of toeing the company line hence gone.
All of them are puppets till they get sick and tired of it.
Hill could have really influenced more about the game downfalls being far more respected.

You and Mono come across as a couple of blokes who would love to have made a career working in football and have sour grapes at those who do! I’m very envious of them.
