I know. I’ve acknowledged this.

A few years back, pre COVID, when Fox still televised Aus football and a lot of overseas leagues I used to laugh at the tactical naivety of League 1 teams. The pundits claimed one could only see proficient playing out from the back in EPL teams!

When Wrexham played in Aus, I was gobsmacked how a team being promoted to the Champ from League 1, was able to change the tempo of the game off the ball! In not many years the $ on offer in England has attracted a lot of Euro Continental coaches chasing coin. Fair play to England. They now have really strong second and third tiers as well as the EPL.
 
Volpato was impressive.

Unlike Iran and Bos who rely on fast ball carrying to beat defenders, Volpato can do it at slower speed in confined spaces. He tends to use side to side body feints, sole of the foot, La Croquetas, Matthews’ Cuts, Outside Brazilian step overs and Standard Cuts - and is comfortable in tighter spaces.

No end product yet but he's beating the man and cresting chances which is more than many others do. Leckie's stumbling for 13 years is finally over.
 
Interesting to hear that Irankunda's been talking to him since his A-League days.

"He's a top player," said Irankunda. "He's my mate. We've been in contact for a long time. When I first broke through in the A-League, we were talking. It was great to get to play with him against Switzerland and then today when we both came on. He's talented, a damn good player, and I'm just happy to have him in the team."

Volpato, for his part, was emotional upon making his World Cup debut and enthusiastic about the possibility of combining with Irankunda and Touré.

"It was a dream come true," Volpato said. "Seeing the green and gold out there was amazing. I just wanted to try and make every Aussie proud, because we're a good team, and now we just have to prove that.

"Walking out today, I was tearing up; it was amazing. If I knew about this, I would have come a long time ago!"

I suspect not to upset the establishment and whatever else being such a late last minute inclusion they have not wanted to upset the precious ones under the circumstances that he held out for the last 4+yrs.
Showing that - he can't just walk in kind of look he must earn it.
 
What's weird is the comparison the guys 50x better and more useful than leckie. Volpato I would assume could play anywhere across the front line and possibly 8/10. Always thought if leckie was from a European country he would of been a fullback. I love lecks but it's not even fkn close I'm sorry lol
 
No coach will respond in front of the cameras to it but I'd love another Bosnich style rant just stating the facts. Leckie is overweight and unfit and shouldn't be there. What criteria did Popovic even consider to start him? He'd probably say experience.
