Pompey favourite's decision to turn back on Socceroos set to pay off
In-form Pompey forward Adrian Segečić could well be playing in this year’s World Cup for Croatiawww.portsmouth.co.uk
I wouldn't be surprised at all if he is in Croatia squad.Bet he doesn’t make it.
Saw the proposed 11 and he's definitely not in that but a great squad chance.I wouldn't be surprised at all if he is in Croatia squad.
Adrian Segecic need not be mentioned on Green & Gold FC anymore since he has already made the decision to commit to the red and white checkerboard for life. Can we ban the word Segecic on here? And any mention of him?
Just makes me depressed...
On the dual internationals thread? Lol.Can we ban the word Segecic on here? And any mention of him?
Just makes me depressed...
You do realise who the coach is right?Just having a think, who are the dual nationals that we haven't cap tied yet but probably should given (i) their current or potential ability and (ii) the possibility that their alternate nationality might take a look at them? Off the top of my head (and in no particular order):
It's quite a list, to which you could add a number of additional names who seem very unlikely to be poached, but who I'd still like to get cap-tied (because you never bloody know these days). Those players would include Lucas Herrington, Marcus Younis, Paul Okon-Engstler, Deni Juric, Anthony Kalik, Noah Botic and Sam Klein.
- Cristian Volpato
- Antonio Arena
- Dan Bennie
- Alex Robertson
- Luka Jovanovic
- Dylan Leonard
- Dylan Scicluna
- Gianluca Okon-Engstler
- Ayman Gulasi
- James Overy
- Ante Suto
I'd expect us to potentially cap-tie Robertson, Herrington, Paul Okon-Engstler, Deni Juric and Marcus Younis (though perhaps less likely) between now and the end of the Asian Cup in January.
However, for the more borderline examples (Bennie, Arena if he switches and Luka Jovanovic in particular) there's no obvious point in the next 12 months to cap-tie them; if the same format is adopted next time round, World and Asian Cup qualifying won't start until November 2027.
This is why I'd really like us to join the ASEAN Championship and use it to blood youngsters and serve as a development opportunity. It's a biennial tournament (next one is this July) that FIFA class as an "A" international and so serves to cap-tie players. It would be a perfect opportunity to send an U-23/fringe player development squad where all the players named above could be locked-in ASAP (subject to the usual caveats around age).
