NPL 2026

Very interesting read
Holy shit thats absurd.

The pulled the swiftiest of swifties it seems and now:

By the end of the meeting, a motion proposed by members calling for the current board to be vacated and a new board elected, was put forward by Charalambous to be voted on. However, under the club’s constitutional structure, the outcome ultimately rested with the benefactor member. Hanlin exercised that voting power, voting for the board to remain in place.

Only resolution I can see is Olympic winding up and starting a Pheoniox club without the dodgy prick at the helm - Pan_Hellenic 2.0.

From assumption and based on other community clubs that I know of in Georgia, Ukraine etc, businessman/council fed up of being the majority funder without any members helping out, convinced a bunch of oldies to change the constituion at an AGM where no members were active or cared and now it's in this situation.

I feel like this could have been easily avoided, I also feel that there are people there who simply love the 'drama' of this rather than just actually going/supporting the club for the past 15 or so years. If there actually was 700 people there, that's great but that's also such a shit go. Where were these 700 people when the constituion was on the agenda to change at whatever AGM it was or even at games?
Fuck knows where they came from considering their NPL crowds excluding club juniors is probably 10% of that. That's the disapointing part of this. A constant network of support wouldn't have lead the club to be in the position it is now.

Thanks mate , by reading it got no where but stay in the current situation in Hanlins hands/current board without his funding.
I agree what was said though, if you can present a viable sustainable alternative bring it out and thats what the otherside against needs to bring to the table so as the current Board can be punted.
Am I making sense :)
Plenty of clubs in the NPL survive without a 'benefactor' and Olympic can do the same. The community needs to take the club back.

Someone mentioned starting a Phoenix club.. didn't that already happened when some of the old board, many years ago, took over what is now Canterbury Bankstown?

Swifty yes, in regards to the timing of it however he has been "legimitimately" been voted in and given the power that was voted upon via the constitution of the club. He can do whatever he likes because he's the man with the money, like it or not. I find it stunning that he has final veto over board alterations, that is unprecedented and wild.

Sorry mate, no idea what went down at that board meeting but from the sounds of things they had enough people there to form a legitimate quorum according to the constitution and voted for a change in structure that perhaps some of those present didn't really understand, they trusted in the board's good intentions and now the "benefactor" can do whatever he wants..... Thats dogshit.

Nothing has been approved by asics
Nothing registed or approved
Alot of rubbish
Can any one see haiti

Il give u a clue
He has his face covered
Sad most of the first grade had to listen to this rubbish

Personaly i dont like katholos or a few in the sterring committe but thats my opinion not going to elaporate

Im so frustrated

I get what you are tying to say but "there but for the grace of God" go many clubs. Some managed to turn things around, others are still up for debate. I think the Sydney league will be poorer for no "Greek" club in the top two tiers at least.

Im not saying they didnt do it to themselves.
I get that, you walk a very fine line when you deal with the money men in football, this is where strong governance and strong constitution are paramount. Marconi were demoted but they had strong foundations to get back up and they did and how, strong admin, loyal players and coaching staff and backend staff who recognised that getting angry was pointless.

Greek, Italian, Maco, Croatian, Turkish, Serbian or Strayan the ethnicity is irrelevant here, a football club is a football club.

Everyone can laugh about this but just remember this will happen to other clubs

I Call it the way i see it
This is a joke
mate no one is laughing tbh - maybe some banter originally but none are really happy seeing whats happening to SO as fellow NPL supporters.
It is a joke its come to this but the joke has been coming for a long time.
Whats good its finally bubbled to the top and something Good has to come out from this fingers crossed.

For sure mate, I agree.

Sorry maybe I misspoke, not that the NSW league swill be "poorer" for not having a strong Greek team, more that it will be such an anomaly considering how large the community up there is. Contracts that to Melbourne where, at the moment, the top of the table is very Hellenic.

It’s true. Hopefully it doesn’t come to that, it’s clear to see the general football community value Olympic

Interestingly, not to have a dig, but a similar point could be made about Victoria being an anomaly having no strong Italian clubs. Where in nsw, sa (Marconi, APIA, Adelaide city) etc even wa and qld (Perth azzurri, Brisbane city) to an extent some of the strongest clubs are of Italian extraction (I still don’t count Avondale for reasons I’ve gone over previously)

The Greek community need to get together and build a social/football club. They have a lot of small social clubs all over the place in Sydney.. sell them and put the money into one big social/football club.

Even the Portuguese community, which is small in comparison, has three proper social clubs, two of them have football clubs. There has been talk of a merger to make one club, which I completely agree with.

yep very true - thats the greek melting pot in Syd for decades.
Should have had premise's and importantly ground of their own lonnnng ago ie SO.

Eh I was at Denby St Saturday night for a festival - trouble is they don't want to lose their identity with you know who.

This is absurd that Olympic could not even build a semblance of a home in the last 40 years. Compare the 2 demographic maps of Melbourne and Sydney.

South Melbourne has been badly affected by the outward movement to the fringes, whereas Sydney Greeks are STILL in the Earlwood hinterland.

One theory of mine is that Sydneysiders are (were?) generally more flakey than Melbournians. I lived in Sydney for a year in 1998/1999 and my fellow employees had ZERO attachment to the company we worked at. I can imagine what the Greek Sydneysider's were like. They would have jumped on that Sydney FC bandwagon I can imagine! I am only talking about a difference of degrees, rather than anything significant. But I thought I would just mention my theory.
