Most clubs, apart from Sydney and Melbourne, are in in one team towns. How can they have derbies?I get your point but by rivalry I was referring to derbies.

There's still matchups like the Original Rivalry which would count as derbies even in one team towns like Adelaide though. Most clubs, apart from Sydney and Melbourne, are in in one team towns. How can they have derbies?
Basically what I’m counting as derbies are named fixtures. For example, the Big Blue or the Sydney Derby are named fixtures. Sydney FC vs any other team is not a “derby”.Most clubs, apart from Sydney and Melbourne, are in in one team towns. How can they have derbies?
Yeah, still not convinced this is a fair way to allocate the extra 4 games, and by extension it isnt a fair way to decide what position each club finishes on the table at the end of the season....There's still matchups like the Original Rivalry which would count as derbies even in one team towns like Adelaide though.
To be honest I think the fairest way to have more games is expansion.Yeah, still not convivned this is a fair way to allocate the extra 4 games.
Who gives them the "name" the marketing department or the actual league? Can you make up your own name for things or is it a social media thing?Basically what I’m counting as derbies are named fixtures. For example, the Big Blue or the Sydney Derby are named fixtures. Yeah definitely NOT promotion or relegation because then some foreigner sheikh may devalue their investment. To be honest I think the fairest way to have more games is expansion.
Expansion would have to come first cause if there was pro/rel and the same number of teams then the same system would be deployed. If you have a 12-team league with pro/rel they play the same amount of games as a 12-team closed league.Yeah definitely NOT promotion or relegation because then some foreigner sheikh may devalue their investment.
Pointless without true relegation.. Giving club owners an imaginary wooden spoon for finishing bottom of the table does NOTHING to drive them to contribute towards the growth of Australian football.Expansion would have to come first cause if there was pro/rel and the same number of teams then the same system would be deployed. By the way I’m all for pro/rel and I really want it. First we would need a bigger league though. Make it 15 teams and then have a pro/rel spot or two with the Championship.
If we have a 15-team A-League Men then that would mean the return of the bye week which isn't really ideal for the fans though.Make it 15 teams and then have a pro/rel spot or two with the Championship.
Oh wait yeah. 16 then.If we have a 15-team A-League Men then that would mean the return of the bye week which isn't really ideal for the fans though.
Let's keep this thread on topic and related to discussion of the upcoming A-League Men matchday 23 fixtures. Any pro-rel talk can go on the dedicated promotion and relegation thread. Can we have a A-League round thread with it turning into yet another boring wankfest about pro/rel. Sick of it.
Completely agree.Let's keep this thread on topic and related to discussion of the upcoming A-League Men matchday 23 fixtures. Any pro-rel talk can go on the dedicated promotion and relegation thread.
whats the worst that can happen? No relegation rememberLet's see what Kisnoobo the Karnt can do.
I guess from Patty's point of view, the worst that can happen is he doesn't get offered a full contract. Currently he's only contracted till the end of the season and finals (if they make finals).whats the worst that can happen? No relegation remember![]()
I think the worst thing that can happen is a piano falling on him on the way to his office personallyI guess from Patty's point of view, the worst that can happen is he doesn't get offered a full contract. Currently he's only contracted till the end of the season and finals (if they make finals).
So, what is a true relegation?Pointless without true relegation.. Giving club owners an imaginary wooden spoon for finishing bottom of the table does NOTHING to drive them to contribute towards the growth of Australian football.
