A-league attendances

You obviously don't watch a lot of world football, where in many a country the stands are mostly empty.
No don't. I have a life.
Not for the first time, your comment is essentially pointless.
I do my best to treat you as white noise but sometimes you break through.

I won't sort out your conflict, but he definitely has a valid point that we have unrealistic expectations about crowds in this country

both eras had crowds that sometimes slightly overperformed our fundaments, sometimes underperformed but almost always close to what we should be expecting to be honest

But you see, Gazor, I don't agree. I don't think aiming for an average of 15 k is unrealistic. Before Gallop got to work we were on target.

I try to defend the league but when stupid things happen like the latest thing talay going to wanderers. Why the fuck would you tap up a rival coach like there's no loyalty it's just borderline unprofessional and park league
Talay was better at playing youth at the nix, I'm hoping we see more youth at wsw

I am curious what wsw fans think of poaching sfc players and coaches whether they love it or hate it. I don't think we have a lot of wsw fans on the forum though

I'm just saying it doesn't exactly create a passion what's the point of following a team if you're players or coach can be poached at any time? It devalues the competition

I wrote a fan view about this, to get 15k consistently we would have to buck global trends across hundreds of countries and leagues about the relationship between top tier attendances and both wages and participation rates

franchises in football often start big but nearly always decline over time. The initial boom is an overperformance that seems to be followed by a reversion to the mean. That overperformance seems to deceive fans and administrators into thinking the initial boom is the floor rather than the ceiling (and a ceiling that is very difficult to reach again). That was true in both the a league and nsl era. Take even the MLS where they can raise wages over time due to increasing the price of license sales and redistribute that money to clubs. The salary cap has doubled since 2014. But the 18 clubs that were there in 2014 and still here today, their average crowds have only grown by 189 despite doubling the wages and having marquees coming out of their ears.

For the millionth time, it happens in EVERY league in the world. TBF, it is happening a hell of a lot more these days, due to players agents, and a society(Today's generation) that wouldn't know loyalty if it bit them on the arse.

I think Adelaide United have found the magic formula on that issue.

They have the right capacity sized stadium and they've figured out what fans really want on-field.

A team full of local players, with the exception of their overseas cohort their team is pretty much a South Australian state team in a sense.

A team like Brisbane who is the only team in the state of Queensland could easily do the same with Queensland talent like what Adelaide has with SA.

Obviously the NSW & Victorian clubs are a different animal though.

Bullshit tell me a rival that steals the other teams coach. Then they are gonna advertise the Sydney Derby as a gate fuelled clash when most players and coach will swap shirts like a slut if they are paid enough

Interetsing comment.. Would you rather Brisbane be competitive ON or OFF the field?

To clarify, would you rather finish top 2-3 every year for a decade in front of 5,000 fans or languish mid table in front of 15,000?

Its NOT gonna fun day today matey :)

Our attendances are amazing, considering the clusterfuck we are in and football being nowhere near the top sport in this country.

K league for example is much more professional, much higher/dense population, but only averages a couple hundred more than us.

I would rather have 6k loyal supporters (like Perth for example) rather than have 15k clowns who only show up when they winning.

CCM decent example, like a yo-yo, vanished as soon as they started losing.

WSW is an interesting one, the club has been a rabble for over 10 straight years, so in a way its sort of understandable.

Macarthur is the only club with what i would consider no fan base, every other club has some sort of base, whether it be 3k, 5k etc.

Have to disagree. As a fan, I could not care less which club a player was at previously. If they are at my club they have my support. As soon as results start flowing, fans forget the past and embrace the now. Look at Mata. MV fans where very critical when he was signed. Now he is the shining light. Is it frustrating when a player goes to a rival club, absolutely, but you move on. Happens all the time. Is it nice when a player sticks around, absolutely, but it's a luxury not an expectation. Important to remember, that players and coaches aren't necessarily fans of the club they are currently at. A player getting to play for the club they grew up supporting is not that common. As fans we get to choose our club, whereas opportunity and performance chooses where a player plays.
I will say it will be interesting if Talay ends up at WSW. It's become a bit of a black hole for coaches. None last more than two seasons. Always have solid squads yet can't get results. If I were Talay, I'd take any other A-League club over WSW.
