Asian Champions League 1 and 2 thread

After watching Tuesday's game and tonight's game, I will have to temper my criticism of AL's referees.
Some awful reffing in the last randers game and the joeys v jordan match

to be honest watch most leagues in europe outside the very top and the reffing is a substantial drop in reffing standards

A league refs are really underrated in my opinion

this season I saw portsmouth player back pass the ball back to his keeper who was 2 meters outside his 18 yard box. The keeper caught it and the ref mysteriously blew a foul in favour of pompey

Melbourne City now up to second place in AFC Champions League Elite group A after the 2-0 win over Johor Darul Ta'zim, level on points with Vissel Kobe who still have their game against Shanghai Shenhua tomorrow and could extend their lead at the top of the table.
Good.

I heard it somewhere too. Apart from all their injuries, I thought City would have the depth to do some damage in the ACL before the campaign started.

Coach, Vidmar, has taken AU to an ACL Final, but they played counterattacking football. Vidmar knows what it takes to be successful in the ACL.

Once again the City whiz kids are stepping up!

I think refereeing in general outside the top European leagues and even sometimes in international football can be a mixed bag, with the standard of refereeing being inconsistent across competitions.

Mauk’s team are the other team through in Macarthur’s group with Mauk getting on the scoresheet himself overnight. The Bulls need just a point away to Beijing to top the group.

Meanwhile in group H, Trent Buhagiar had 4 goals in 5 games as his Tampines Rovers side have made it to the next round.

Poor home crowds!

I think G and G's Melb City Guy attends all of the ACL fixtures though.
What do you expect when tickets are extremely expensive, atmosphere is dead, only 10% of the stadium is on sale, games played at 5pm/6pm on a tuesday night etc. The solution is to move them again but I don't think they will

I like having them.

From what I've seen, they are just as competent as male refs.
Some are some aren't, the point I was making was, shouldn't everyone stay in their own lanes. Is there many blokes reffing in the women's game?

How much are tickets?

Only 10 % of stadium accessible?

I live in a region with no AL or ACL football at all. I'm envious of those who have access to ACL football.

Historically, yes. I've refereed quite a few women's games at lower levels.

Most female refs I've seen recently ref men's games at pro level are roughly as competent. I'm no expert though.

I've had a good look at full replays of both games - City and Mac.

The Macarthur game was a good one. Again I was really disappointed with the crowd though. I thought Mac played well.

From only watching the first 15 mins and last 15 of the City game, after watching the full replay, City struggled quite a bit in the periods I hadn't seen. City certainly had some luck, but those whiz kids are doing well playing against what look like a lot of experienced journeymen - who don't look like residents of the country of the team they were playing!

Way more expensive than aleague tickets, adult tickets start at 40 off memory maybe more. Only bays 1-11 go on sale that would be about 10% of the stadium and fit max 4000 rounded up. Its the lower tier of the east stand, visible on tv broadcast. So 2000 crowd there is terrible but last time City were in the ACL they played a game at Princes Park and despite a similar crowd the atmosphere was 10x better

Thanks.

I didn't realise the cost? What a shame. To me the ACL is a higher level comp and I love seeing how AL teams perform, particularly if the AL team comprises mainly domestic Aus players. It is real bonus that Paramount show ACL fixtures.

You mean Fernando is not a Malay name???

From memory the only Malaysian area with a Portuguese influence is Malacca.

Most of the country are ethnic Malays, Chinese and Indians. It wasn't apparent in the ACL game.

Or are you taking the piss?

These games are very underwhelming when attending. Can count on one hand the number that have been enjoyable since inception.
