Summer of Cricket thread

CA is gonna be spitting chips over the pitch preparation and the overwhelming pace dominant Day 1 with 19 wickets falling, a record that goes back more than a century.

I would go with Weatherald and Konstas to open next test.
I am keeping Head there, a no brainer given how much he must have already gotten into their minds. Stokes and his boys are shell shocked and it will take them some time to overcome it. Aussies will go into the Second Test with hi morale and all the momentum.

How sweet is it to blow away those pesky Poms in two days. 👌
Very sweet!

Missed the last session after walking home from a mate's watching the first two sessions yesterday. I could not believe Aus had chased it down in 1 session?

Poms were on top when the Barmy Army was roaring and Crase ? and Atkinson were flaying the Aus attack later in the second session.

A CA X1 is also making life difficult for little brother, the England Lions in Perth. They took a solid first inns lead and already have one of their openers back in the sheds in their second. Grazor and others here, take note of the name Charlie Anderson, 20 and imho, a Josh Hazlewood clone. JH was picked to play Test cricket at 21, will Charlie be too.

It was a see saw Test.

I've read the Pom attack couldn't back up in the second innings, due to lack of match fitness.

How would Head go in England as an opener?

De

Depends on the pitch. If prepared for hitting yes, if a typical one and in their weather conditions, no, as he doesnt have the technique.
Usman and Lyon were off the pitch a lot in the 2 days.

I wonder why old Test players sometimes just won't gracefully retire?

Lyon has had about 17 years or so?

Usman is 39.

Yes. Ussie may be tapped after this series. Lyon should retire as he has done it all and is holding up his successor.
I think 27 yo Kuhnemann is the perfect replacement. He took more wickets in SL than Lyon.

Usman is a liability in the field too. They have to hide him at first slip.

Ta, Richie.

The fact that head can open and we have other decent openers and then a string of middle orders it makes no sense to persist with Khawaja.
I suspect Kawaja also offers some things off field. Remember that he was kept around the squad quite a bit in the days between test appearances and we all thought his career was over before coming back and performing well. I think he may stay as a part of the squad all summer but may not play all the games. This is probably his last summer, and Perth may well have been his last test.

We disagrees on this. My choice is 27 yr old Corey Rocco. Has not been given a chance to see how he'll bowl in Asia. I reckon he'd go fine as he has good top spin and that is always a success over there. He has had excellent back to back seasons, plus he is a better bat that Kuhn. I also like his hunger.

Tassie/Blues match evenly poised after first day DC. I am liking that some youngsters are now finding their way into the Blues squad. Not before time. Namely Lachlan Shaw and Ryan Hicks, with both posting 50s. Ollie Davis with another failure. Has to be sacked now.

Whilst the batting was a problem for our English friends I think a bigger concern is the drop in pace from their quicker bowlers from the 1st to the second innings. I know the batsmen didn't give them much rest between innings but the total overs bowled was less than you would expect in one innings of a game. If they can't back up when reasonably fresh how will they do it when they play back to back tests in a few weeks time?

I don’t mind that option if we have a good young player to add to the side as a middle order batsman.
