"Can you smell the fear?", do the other football codes in Australia (AFL,NRL), genuinely fear football?

No-one fears us at the moment - but than can change. We need a few things to align.

The absolute first of these is to recruit someone like John Coates to be a football tsar of some sort. He is brilliant at extracting money for sport and would be an incredible asset. He also has a long connection to the IOC and ASC and still wields a lot of influence there. His connections through IOC also overlap with many members of the FIFA congress or close connections.

The next steps comes next year.

1) We need to host a successful Womens Asian Cup from March 1-26 March and
2) Win the 2031 Mens Asian Cup bid at the 2026 AFC Congress probably during the Womens Asian Cup. During the bid we need to show an increased capacity over previous versions and show not only readiness but also spread across the nation. Seats should be in excess of 2,000,000 across the 51 games. These stadiums fit that build. Canberra may have an updated 30,000 stadium by 2031 and Hobart could be replaced if not built by Townsville (with a bigger capacity) or that stadium could be added.

At the moment we are slight favourites over South Korea but there are seven bids and our chances are about 30%

If we win there is a case to either play at Marvel (53343) in Melbourne or the MRS. The MRS is already going to be part of the Olympics given its current size but really does not stack up for Australia's second city when Perth, Brisbane, Sydney and Newcastle and Adelaide all have larger capacities. The Olympics plus the 2031 Asian Cup could provide cover for expansion to 50,000. The two events could also provide cover for a Tier 2 stadium at Perry Park.

Victoria Park (not in progress btw, it is only a concept at the moment) in Brisbane will be an oval. Suncorp Stadium is the most suitable Brisbane stadium.

The government has begun the procurement process, which includes technical site investigations and planning.
Expressions of interest for the project are now open.
The project is part of a larger Olympic precinct plan.
Major construction is planned to begin by the end of 2026.
Federal and state governments have signed an agreement to fund Olympic infrastructure, which includes the stadium.

The new stadium at Victoria Park will be designed with retractable seating to be multi-purpose for the Brisbane 2032 Olympics, which will allow it to host both Olympic events and major football matches that require FIFA compliance. There may be a slight reduced capacity but will be larger than Suncorp.

Suncorp would be fine though.

I’ll believe that when I see it.

It doesn't really matter - Suncorp is fine.
I agree Suncorp will be fine, in fact it will be preferable.

Also, presumably the Asian Cup will be in January 2031, at least 18 months before the Olympics. If construction starts in late 2026, I struggle to believe it will be ready by January 2031, only 4 years later and 18 months or more prior to the Olympics.

Brisbane was awarded the Olympics over 4 years ago, and so far the progress on facilities is practically zero.

You may well be right. Just basing it on Sydney - construction of Stadium Australia started in September 1996 and finished in March 1999 - so it should be able to be done.

I'm fed up with this.

I'm only 5 minutes in to MCG's video, but nobody who isn't a football fan I know, and few are fans, worry about my perceived rants about media bias against football in Aus. I'm just so sick of seeing women's AFL on ABC news. Nothing about the AL or ACL. There is even off season coverage of the men's AFL next season.

I wasn't aware of the negative coverage of the AL Grand Final. It had no coverage in Tas.

I didn't see any 'fear' from egg ball codes about football, because they get saturation coverage from the media.

That is the case in the southern states, I'm surmising?

It might be different in the ACT, Queensland and NSW, because men's and women's AFL must have limited coverage. I know there is plenty of league and union coverage though.

This is my gripe about the ABC - apart from Ch 24 sports, on the main news channel there is no coverage. Sunday morning Classic FM, news about AFL & cricket & NRL but zilch about the A-League. Last night Clint Stanaway (MC member apparently) managed to get MC's two goals on 9 news.

As the mainstream media with occasional exceptions( usually the Matildas and EPL) is only interested in AFL( M and W) ,NRL( M and W) and RU( Channel 9 Sydney and SMH) Football is ignored. We don't need to worry too much as the FTA and print media are slowly dying so we should listen to the various podcasts( G and G FC,The Soccerwhos,Round Ball Australia, and Football 360,etc)and support them by commenting and giving the hosts feedback. Also of course encourage any football people you know to hop onto this forum.

Unfortunately too many people within 🇦🇺⚽️ still subscribe to the line of thinking that converting the ‘mainstream’/bogan demographic must be persisted with, at all costs..👎🏼

From my mouth to God’s ears - just no. They genuinely don’t GAF nor do they wish to; let’s leave them alone in their sporties’-night-at-the-local-RSL-in-1979 safe space and just concentrate on ourselves💡⚠️

The point of focusing on making football here the best it can be is to pull the whole country in. Pandering to anyone isn't needed, but neither is staying small. It should be mainstream and that should be the goal, without it being the means.

I'm a mainstream bogan AFL fan and sort of agree. But you do need a platform to find it on. That's less likely to need to be MSM these days. TWG was big for me when I started playing football and following. I reckon SBS/10 is are trying. The pandering pisses me off.
