The Australian Championship šŸ‡¦šŸ‡ŗšŸ†

Yeah, had seen a bit of that connection being pointed out online
I don't think it would matter where any visiting Croat club comes from coming to play in Sydney - by the look of it FA think anything Croat spells warning and think many SU support would turn up hence the directive.

FYI as a matter of interest not sure people out of the loop would know this tournament has been going on for decades.
History is long and strong as we all know and every season fellow affiliated Croat Clubs run their own tournament State to State without bomb or riot squads around.
One of my sons has played quite of few of these in recent times - its bloody brilliant.
I'm sure Beretta has supported these games also.
The Croatian community of Australia has played an important part in the history of Australian football (soccer). Countless clubs have been formed over the years in every state and territory (except for the Northern Territory). At present there are 32 active Croatian football clubs operating in Australia & New Zealand.

The Australian-Croatian Soccer Tournament is a tournament run by the Croatian Soccer Association of Australia (CSAA or "Savez" in Croatian), which has been held annualy since 1974. The inspiration for the tournament came from the successful Croatian-North American Soccer Tournament founded in 1964.

The CSAA annual tournament today represents being the largest and oldest ethnic football tournament in Australia, having been hosted in every Australian state and territory except for the Northern Territory (it was also hosted by NZ member club Auckland Croatia). It also holds the honour of being the oldest national soccer competition still running in Australia.

Our Club has been proudly participating at the CSAA Tournaments since 1996 under its original name of Dalmacija Sydney Croatian Club, and over the years has entered teams in the Men's Division 2, Masters (O35's) & Women's Competitions.

The tournament is currenty split into 5 divisions: Men's Division 1 (NPL/State League Clubs), Men's Division 2 (Lower State League/Amateur Clubs), Women's Division, Masters Division (over 35's) & Veterans Division (over 45's).

Gold Coast Knights FC will host the 51st Annual CSAA Tournament between Thursday 25th September 2025 to Sunday 28th September 2025 (inclusive) at the Croatian Sport Centre Gold Coast.

Correct. Messages went out during the week to boycott rest of the games due to the clubs mismanagement of this tournament and police

I for one didnt and sadly went, Raptor riot police again. More cops than fans. I dont think 500 people went.

On the field we are shambles. Cant wait for the tournament to be over.
Don't apologise for going.... Stick by your team in good times AND bad..... EVERY club has shit times and shambles.....

Going back to Preston and South Melbourne, if you look at the Australian Championship Facebook post yesterday where they used the term ā€˜Makedonia’, it triggered a flurry of angry posts by Greeks.

Not one post was about the game.

Somehow there has not been any trouble on the terraces (yet) between the two sets of supporters.
Are the Floriniotes at it again?

Reddit having a hard on cause of the no left turn banner :ROFLMAO:

Apparently that's fascist now lol
Very odd to go after the no left turn banner - so many worse things (not necessarily at yesterday's game) they could be going after. Assume you'd agree lots of clubs (not just Cros) have issues - but the reddit posts always seem like a SU pile on with no real flesh or analysis, because that's what's popular.

Obviously SU have issues but clubs like Hume City have bought a Grey Wolves banner to a game (this year) which is significantly worse, you'll never hear about it though because it hasn't been popularised to hate them

Hahaha faaaar too early in the week for me to get into this one...... hahahaha
If you'd been in the region in 1945 you would have been Sutherlandbearski and Monoethnic Social Clubski!

Just doesn't have the same ring to it I am afraid.

Microsoftski would be making a motza wearing out k and i as well as wasd.

its a great long weekend away with the family and kids, around 10k people throughout the 4 days from all parts of Australia & NZ.

Oldest running football tournament, which has 50+ teams participating.

I honestly think most people in the Italian community don’t really think about them, and that’s part of the problem for them. Atleast they don’t think of them as anything more than a suburban club..ie. not the same thing as Marconi or Adelaide city or APIA. Money (particularly when it’s coming from a backer rather than the club itself) or short term success can’t buy history, and let’s be honest that’s what most of the traditional clubs have been running on in the post nsl era, and what attracts people to them, tradition, history and historical context. You cant buy it, you can’t manufacture it. You can’t make a new historic club, it doesn’t work that way

There was a long period of time when clubs like Marconi or Adelaide city were the pinnacle of Australian club soccer, they were as good as it got, so they’re not just normal suburban clubs, and the historic reasons they became clubs that they did also don’t apply to Avondale, they were never the community hub for outcast migrants etc it’s all about context. I think most people just see Avondale as a suburban club who happen to be good at the moment. Just because they’re strong on the field right now doesn’t make them a big club. They’ve got a lot of catching up to do to make up for all those decades of history when they were just a park team

Probably most people at Marconi or APIA think of Avondale the way they would about Bayswater or something in WA. They think it’s a team that happens to be up the top of their state league right now with an Italian connection and that’s it.

Imo and I think most would agree that the big Italian clubs in Australia are Marconi, Adelaide city, APIA, then maybe historically Brunswick juventus, but nowadays it’s probably daylight after those 3 (refer to my comment the other day re many people not considering the current Brunswick juventus to be the actual Brunswick juventus/the merger de merger situation). Not Avondale

And for Melb Italian clubs it was probably originally Brunswick juventus, then Fawkner, then maybe bulleen or Essendon royals. Not Avondale.

Like if Clifton hill got a rich backer and won promotion multiple times and won the npl..that would be good for them, but it doesn’t mean they compare to/are the same thing as a club like South Melbourne or Sydney Olympic or Heidelberg and West Adelaide
Thanks mate, I suspected as such... Great win on the weekend, you are in fine form, clash against the Bergers is going to be great theatre.

Why has everything went quiet on the attendance front. Usually they are up within an hour of the game finishing.IMG_2117.png
