My dear friend, no matter HOW popular the Championship becomes (even if by some miracle of miracles, it eclipses the Aleague) the fact of the matter is that the APL controls the Aleague and a big chunk of the voting rights on the FA board... The owners of Aleague licenses will NEVER vote for a system which enables their investment to have even the remotest chance of being devalued by not competing at the highest possible level. Their very existence is predicated by being Aleague participants. It is lunacy to keep on insisting that they would allow more value to be siphoned from their investments at this point...
AND I DON"T BLAME THEM... They invested in a get rich or die trying scheme.. WU died trying, Gold Coast died trying, so did Fury, so did Kings, SO did Western Sydney Rovers or whatever they where called....
You have to see this through the lens of what it actually is, Franchise football (like Aleague and the MLS) is like WWF wrestling when compared to Olympic Greco-Roman wrestling, one is a sport, the other is an entertainment product with investors and financial milestones and obligations....
Blame the "suits" all you like, its not their fault they are "suits" they paid their coin, now they want their pound of flesh.
