A-League Mens 25/26 - Round 1

There was very little promotion of this game in the everyday media. No telly apart from CH10 news, no radio or print.

Now I know about how nobody reads newspapers or watches the news anymore but there should still be genuine promotion across the everyday media regardless of that.

Added to the general apathy towards the Brisbane Roar playing games at Suncorp Stadium anyway and I'm afraid that 6K was actually a decent crowd for Brisbane.
The thing is, AFL has dropped teams into NRL heartland in Sydney and Bribane and they are thriving, big crowds. Why is Roar not thriving.
I may be on the outer for this but I think Aussie soccer is basically boring. Every team plays the same play out from the back crap. The no off side rule has been floated for years and I would love to see it. What about only 2 touches in your own half before the ball has to be sent to the opposing half, wouldn't that be more interesting? I know this is a FIFA thingy but surely we can play differently from everyone else

We all know Roar inflate crowd numbers so wouldn’t be surprised if they had 3k, It was a good win for them so I hope there crowd numbers increases in the next few home games.
Ahhh, the old NSL trick, inflating crowd numbers.

And ironically the Aus Champ clubs potentially deflating them to retain ticket revenue?

Not sure if this has been mentioned before, but according to a map tool from a Google search - Perth to Auckland is further than Perth to Wellington - so Glory v Nix is no longer the distance derby...?
It is not a “ Derby “. Derbies are two teams from the same city.

Pedantic loyal.

No, we can not. If you don’t like the game of football, then find yourself another sport.

According to Google, the term Derby came from a historic, chaotic Shrovetide football match played between two parishes in the city of Derby, England.

So you don't have "a Derby" you have "the Derby" and anything else is just attention seeking behaviour.

Who says you have to draw the line at "same city" when the term has already been bastardised?

I have no problem with the term derby being dropped from anything that is not within the city truth be told - but equally I don't care if they use the term to hype any and every game.

I don't think we have had alphabet derbies yet - where the teams are adjacent when listed alphabetically by name. So much potential to really irritate if they worked at it ;).

You mean, the same AFL that received $4 billion dollars but doesn't pay any tax, doesn't pay to build their stadiums, gives away endless free tickets and cheap junior brainwashing because they can, piggybacking on publicity from Murdoch or Fairfax, burning through endless cash in those states trying to make it work, draft picks and salary rorts to manufacture performance in a manufactured league...

THAT AFL?

As Sutherlandbear said - it is the game.

If our country switched to a 'super soccer' they would not be playing the world game anymore. The skills and muscle memory to then play proper football would be gone. We would be playing Australian Football Football without any external competition or basis for comparison. Sure, we could then say we were the world's best at it but what value is that really?

There is actually no problem with the popularity of football - it is huge. We just try to force the interest for it into the media channelled teams to make it 'big'.

We did it with the aleagues and if you glance through the Championship thread you will see it appearing equally strongly as a 'requirement' to produce numbers to be considered successful.

The game swings on a single goal as often as not. individual moments of play make it such a thrilling game and finding ways to open the scoring up would detract from the set of skills and abilities that make it great watching.

Fuck Google, Derby is the shortened version of " Local Derby ".

As I said I may be on the outer, but I stand by it. Also don't be a wanker
You are sounding like a wanker, with your shite idea. Like i said, if you don't like it, then shut the door behind you.

BTW, hundreds of millions around the world would agree with me.

Victory with a real fun starting xi, good to see stella get a start and genreau might be an older player but a fun one to watch

Esposito solid, inserra really seems to improve both in his decision making and bulked up a bit

This sport is the world game, not some mono sport like AFL, where Australia is the only country that plays the game & we can change to please a couple of cites in Australia. Football is a world game & only FIFA can change the rules.

Wow, Genreau is 26 already. Time flies!
had the bad luck of his team getting promoted a year before he was ready. Managed to nail a starting spot down, but really you want to good seasons in the xi to be sure you keep your spot, especially if you get injured

huge coup for victory, if he gets back to his best he is good enough to start for a top ligue 2 side

Genreau was very good but overall that was a hard slog to get through, i can understand match fitness not up to level yet being round 1 but the turnovers and technical quality of the match was ordinary. Npl with more ppl in the crowd.
