The 4 Pines Brewery in Sydney were taken over by Asahi a while back, something that seems to be happening to a lot of craft breweries. Anyway I see they now they do this Japanese style lager. I bought a 6 pack the other day and because it's been quite warm in Brisbane I didn't need much encouragement to get into it....

Have to say that it's a very good drop and I shall be back for more!
The former Four Pines head brewer is the son of David Ellis, head brewer of Bos Brewery in Tea Tree, a few kilometres from me.

David has learned a lot from his son. He brews superb Stouts and Porters, sometimes whisky barrel aged. I don’t like the taste of whisky, so just a subtle taste of it in dark beers is more appealing than a modicum of a whisky flavour in beer.

David has given me a lot of free samples, but I insist on paying for them.

He has also brewed a pale ale with a lot of fruitiness, but eased back on hops. Very little bitterness in the finish. I like it!

Suntory long time old beer tried it years and years ago I'll have to look out for it get a 6pack for a taste reminder.

D I noticed in another thread you mentioned of Mexican lager beers to try if I recall correct.
The best I enjoy is Modelo.
They also have dark choices - have consumed the lager a number of times.
Another good Mex beer is Dos Equis - bought that a number of times as well.
Again available at Dans.
My many trips to Mex I giggle they consider Corona like we do/did re Fosters - crap - they just have been smart Exporting and the lemon became a fad/marketing back in the 80's - sure did work.

I gave Millers CHILL (has dash of Lime) a run for a while for nice and chilled was enjoyable on summer days, went down easy as but kind of got sick of it.

Due to my portugese inlaws/fam they are into
Sagres and Superbock.
Sagres I suppose I'm used to it not bad at all.
I was very impressed with both Sagres in the South and Superbock in the North of Portugal for mainstream beers!

The Porto beer is a bit smoother over a range of styles. They don’t use preservatives in either brewery either - which is good.

Lette craft beer was very good in the flat canal place ( Aveiro?) half way between Lisbon and Porto.

Have to say I find Corona and other mainstream Mexican lagers appalling. I make no apologies - I am a beer snob! I can taste the metallic, preservative flavour in them. I’m constantly told off by my wife for being one, but so are others in TCBA!

In Tas Stephen Brooks from Capt Bligh has produced a decent Cerveja, which is a bit hoppier than the very sweet T Bone Cerveja, also of high quality, owned by some wealthy Midlands farming family. I can’t remember their name ATM.

With Cervejas they tend to use corn or maize grain, instead of barley, generally used in Aus and the UK.

Capt Bligh used Tas hops, a combo of Eclipse, Enigma, Summer, in his Cerveja when I asked SB.

German Perla hops are used in most Cervejas.

A mate of mine has just posted a few photos drinking Japanese beer on to Tas CBA from her trip to Japan.

Must try Suntory.

I must have had Kirin.

One outstanding Japanese craft beer I've had, over a range of beer styles, is Baird's. Can you remember any of the craft breweries' names, Muz?

I'd have to look them up but it's a big scene. Have a go at how many were in a small area of Tokyo.

I remember going to a craft beer place behind the IXL hotel at the south end of the harbour in Hobart...

What's that called?

Tas CBA had a successful Oktoberfest event at One Stop Cafe Geeveston.

The owner is a Turkish German. No beers on tap, but a good range of German and Tassie craft beers. Hussein is a terrific host too. It is supposedly a German style cafe.

He loves beer and brings out free ones. I think the large Tas CBA group and friends really boosted his takings.

Going to be in Canberra for the Australian masters for a week. I see they have quite a few craft breweries down there. Will definitely be stopping in.

Reports to follow.

There's a small craft brewery on the Sunshine Coast called Your Mates Brewing Co. and they got some of their beers into Choice Liquor. I bought a 6 pack of PaleAle and a 6 pack of Lager.

Very, very good!

Might give their IPA a whirl next week.

Good craft breweries in Canberra.

Bent Spoke - one of the top breweries in Aus.

Capital Brewing

Tumut - a bit east of Canberra.

They don't miss you with the prices here. Bloody hell.

No wonder everyone's on drugs.
