U20 WC 2025 Australia match thread

There is such a difference in level at these World Cup events, everything exposes you.

If this was a friendly game it’s a different environment where the pressure is not the same.

You can tell some of the misses have come from no composure where normally they put them away, they got to keep on going if they score the equaliser it might change the outcome of the game.

Also Italy are good too a different level from the AFC level but still the boys are playing well nevertheless.

Quite a few still in A League pre season which is less than ideal. Those at bigger clubs just get youth park football without the pressure. I think our eyes lit up at each chance and hence was squandered.
 
Great long run by Bennie and blocked for a corner. Interesting how Italy couldn't cut him down there.
 
Toure probably not having the greatest game

in that run from bennie he kind of was in no mans land, not really forward, not really back for the pull back
 
Our system fails to focus on skills. Pace and power only takes to you to Entry, skills will take you to finals.

This is still way better than the previous generations who were poor in their own right and had such systems. I can't remember a youth tournament where we taken it to the opponent like this.

Biggest issues today are the midfield and fullbacks. A lack of composure in front of goal for chances we wouldn't have created the last decade.

About 2min of really good close quarters movement by Australia. They don't pull the trigger but beat the man or created new sequences right away. You can't say previous U20 teams did this the last 15 years.
 
Lots fewer chances here in the 2nd half so far
Australia need to take shots from distance, just to prevent italy from defending so darn narrow

commentator is pretty bad "definitely does not get the ball" just as the replay shows him getting the ball

still pretty a heavy challenge
 
All of our defenders are an I'll disciplined liability. Stupid passing around the back and unnecessary fouls. Add Okon with his silly decisions and it's the apparent better cohort that's creating a lot of the issues.
