The Orange Army. (Brisbane Roar Official Thread)

This is about all I can find from a Roar perspective (from Reddit through Google):

No mention of squads or anything specific. Nothing to say how close either side was to their first choice team throughout the game or who was on by the time the penalty was given/taken (other than MacAlister who scored for SFC).

Anyone know if the 'tight pitch' meant they played on a small or narrow field even?

Roar Media Release:
"Brisbane Roar are pleased to announce that prolific forward Kyla Hanson joins the club for the 25/26 season from Eastern Suburbs FC in the NPLW QLD.

The 19-year-old secured the 2025 NPLW Golden Boot with an impressive 26 goals to her name, along with nine assists, after contributing to a successful season for Eastern Suburbs to reach the Semi Final.

Hanson has been referred to as one of Queensland’s best attacking prospects after making her NPL debut at just 15 with Capalaba FC. The goal-scorer also found the back of the net in last year’s match between Brisbane Roar and the Queensland Women’s State Team.

“I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to play for the Roar,” Hanson said.

“Playing in front of my family and friends for the club I grew up watching feels surreal.

“I can’t wait to represent the Roar with the fans behind me.”

“Kyla is someone who has been on my radar since I joined the club,” Head Coach, Alex Smith said.

“Her performances and output in the NPLW this year have earned her this chance to step up to the professional level.

“Winning the NPLW Golden Boot at a young age should be a preview for fans for what she will bring to the Roar. She is a fearlessly attacking player who will look to take players on and score goals.” "

I have no idea what you are asking about...?

Did I miss a game somewhere?

Edit: As an aside, I never have any inside knowledge or goss on the Roar

I was under the impression Brisbane played Sydney behind closed doors.

Yeah - I looked it up when you mentioned it first and could see nothing. I checked again when Sutherlanderbear told us about the score and found the above Reddit post.

Glad you mentioned it first - I hadn't seen anything about it.

CEO Update: Brisbane Roar 25/26 A-Leagues Fixtures

Dear Brisbane Roar members,

I am coming to you today as we are set to announce our Isuzu UTE A-League Men and Ninja A-League Women fixtures this Thursday morning.

There can be no hiding that the delay in the release of our season fixtures has become increasingly frustrating for both you and us as a football club.

As we await the release of the fixtures, I want to update you regarding both our Men’s and Women’s programs:

Ninja A-League Women

It is today that I can announce that we will be relocating all Ninja A-League Women fixtures to Imperial Corp Stadium, Newmarket for the upcoming season.

This decision was made for three key reasons. Firstly, we were unable to reach an agreement regarding the hire of Perry Park for the upcoming season. Secondly, the venue no longer meets all required professional standards, and following feedback from the wider playing cohort, it was deemed unsatisfactory for A-League Women’s football. As a result, the decision to move away from Perry Park was both necessary and unavoidable.

And finally, Imperial Corp Stadium is an immense venue that is well and truly up to standard, offers a phenomenal atmosphere on game day along with all the amenities necessary for our women’s team and you, the fans. They deserve the most professional environment possible, and we thank Brisbane City FC for their help in this process.

With two train stations within a 15-minute walk of the venue and access to buses and street parking nearby, we are confident that Imperial Corp Stadium will play home to several sold-out fixtures throughout the season.

It’s important to note that at least one fixture will now be held at Kayo Stadium in Redcliffe as part of a double header, following the recent schedule changes.

Isuzu UTE A-League Men

Across our off season, we spent a considerable amount of time with all stakeholders to produce a much-improved schedule compared last year for our Men’s team – and this was achieved.

However, due to circumstances outside of our control, the updated fixtures we have now received are different. For now, whilst a small number of fixtures are worked through, the men’s team will be forced to play on the road for the month of December.

We will still play ten home games at Suncorp Stadium, with three fixtures to be played at alternate venues in South East Queensland including Kayo Stadium, Redcliffe.

I look forward to seeing as many of you as possible at our Season Launch Fan Day set for October 11 in central Brisbane, six days before our first home match of the season.

Regards,
Kaz Patafta – Brisbane Roar Chief Executive Officer

Moving the women's matches from Perry Park (at the train station) to Imperial Corp Stadium (home of Brisbane City) with 15 minutes walk from the nearest train is a big inconvenience - although the ground and stadium is much better as they say.

The men's team playing on the road (no, I am sure they don't mean literally playing on the road) through December suggests that we struggled to get Suncorp due to delays in the scheduling. Not in our control and stinks to be such a low priority sport that we suffer for it. Still get 10 Suncorp home games so December will just be playing a month without home advantage then we should have a block of home games to balance it.

Roar Media Release:
"Brisbane Roar can today announce the signing of Dutch forward Bente Jansen from Dutch top tier Eredivisie side, AFC Ajax for the upcoming Ninja A-League 25/26 season.

The 26-year-old arrives in Brisbane from AFC Ajax, where she has made 24 appearances and scored three goals since signing for the club in 2023.

Prior to her time in the capital, Jansen spent twelve years at FC Twente where she played more than 100 matches after making her professional debut in 2016. Jansen lifted silverware three times after winning the Women’s Eredivisie (league title) in 2019, 2021 and 2022 with FC Twente.

The attacker has also won the Dutch Cup with both clubs, the Dutch Super Cup with Twente, and reached the Quarter Finals of the Champions League with Ajax.

“I’m super happy and proud to play for Brisbane Roar and grateful for the confidence the club has in me,” Jansen said.

“My first conversations with Alex felt really good and the ambitious playing style immediately appealed to me and suits my own style of play very well.

“I want to make a direct impact on the field and help the team with my experience to achieve great goals in the upcoming season.”

“Very pleased to welcome Bente to the club,” Head Coach, Alex Smith said.

“It’s a huge coup for our program to sign a player of her calibre. She has extensive experience in a top European league and is in the prime of her career.

“She has fantastic technical ability and a proven track record of winning trophies.” "

Write up from the Brisbane Roar website on the pre-season game against Olympic FC yesterday:
"Brisbane Roar delivered a commanding performance at Goodwin Park on Thursday (should say Wednesday) evening, defeating Olympic FC in front of a near capacity home crowd at Goodwin Park.

Brisbane set the tone early with a high press and fluid ball movement, keeping Olympic pinned back and forcing turnovers. The aggressive approach paid off quickly, with Chris Long opening the scoring before the 20-minute mark – a crucial goal that boosted the Roar’s momentum.

The dominance continued as Antonee BurkeGilroy’s technical buildup play launched a swift counterattack, ending with a composed tap-in from triallist Matthew Dench. Burke-Gilroy was a standout throughout the half, showcasing his work ethic on both ends of the pitch.

Noah Maieroni added flair and creativity to the Roar’s midfield, playing a key role in the lead-up to Jacob Brazete’s goal that extended the advantage to 3-0. Before the half-time whistle, Long bagged his second, giving Brisbane a commanding 4-0 lead.

The Roar carried their momentum into the second half. Just minutes in, Quinn MacNicol added a fifth, before latching onto a pinpoint cross from James Durrington to make it 6-0 with his second of the night.

Ianni Valkanis got on the scoresheet with a stunning long-range strike to push the scoreline, before Ivan Ozzi capped off the night with a clever lob to seal the 8-0 victory.

The club would once again like to thank Olympic FC for their immense hospitality throughout the evening.

EDIT: I assume the author meant Dimitri Valkanis not his brother Ianni - but maybe Ianni did have a run with us too.

Does anyone think we need a marquee to bring back some crowds to Suncorp? It looks really bleak playing games there with only 6k people.

Agree about the 6k look.

I find the football speaks louder than most marquee players though.

When we play football that excites people and lets them go home feeling like winners they come to the games. When we play boring, bad football they stay away.

You would probably need a Messi or Beckham type name to entice a crowd in (not saying those players specifically, but genuine household name players). An Aussie marquee does not drag many people in, and a lot of big club names will still only have a small impact on our crowds.

The bog standard ignorant football followers (like me) will come for a good game more than a 'great' former Euro star.

When we play 'guaranteed top 6' style football we will get people back. Contender football and we will see crowds again.

I am really hopeful that 5 or 6 rounds in to this season word will be spreading and numbers steadily increasing.

What will bring people back is a string of wins and a team playing good football. But it will be a slow process. This kind of damage is a two season minimum repair job.

Roar Media Release:
"Brisbane Roar can today announce that scholarship defender, Pearson Kasawaya has departed the football club after having his contract mutually terminated.

Pearson joined the football club ahead of the 2024/25 season on a two-year scholarship contract. During his time at the club, Pearson made four Isuzu UTE A-League Men appearances for the club along with featuring frequently for Brisbane Roar B.

The club would like to thank Pearson for his contribution to the football club and wish him all the best for his future endeavours."

I know nothing about him leaving, but he seemed to be OK from the little I have seen of him.

Looks younger than his 18 years, and hasn't got a lot of physical strength due to his age, but he could hold the ball and win the ball and had a bit of pace and flair about him.

As a left back he would be lined up behind McGarry and possibly Burke-Gilroy so he might not have seen much hope of game time.

Hope he goes on to good things.
