Sunshine Coast for A-League?

B
I thought this too btu they are basically in the process of appointing contractors i believe.

And realistically, the Sunshine Coast needs a stadium badly.
Why does Sunshine Coast need a stadium of the reported size? It’s not needed for the local RL team. Realistically, the only occasions likely to happen where a large crowd may attend would be the odd Broncos or other NRL team preseason game, or if an NRL team decides to hold a one-off fixture at SC.
This stadium is just another example of the state government throwing lots of money to RL. The best stadium, in terms of future utilisation, to build/upgrade in Qld currently would be to turn Perry Park into a 10-15,000 seat stadium.

I assume that it will have to be FIFA compliant - at least for the Games period and I have heard that the cost is approaching $200m. Central Coast Stadium, which TBH is idyllic in outlook but not so much in design, thin corridors etc cost $32.5m in the late 1990s. Shows the increase in Stadium construction costs skyrocketing.

There will be a population of 500k on the Sunshine coast by the Olympics. Thats larger than Geelong.

Put a stadium there and you can put professional teams there.

Its one of the best parts of Australia. It needs more professional sport.
yep agreed and Vlandy's will have it locked up for sure and like Allianz will be leased to A APL business you'd think.

Isn't it called Sunshine Coast Stadium or is that somewhere else ?
Redcliffe NRL team are based at Kayo Stadium (formerly Dolphins Stadium) in Redcliffe. Sunshine Coast Stadium is the ground at Bokarina, between Caloundra and Mooloolaba, which is earmarked for expansion to 16,000 seats for the Olympics. It currently has one small grandstand which seats about 1000, and its primary tenant is SC Falcons rugby league team which play in the Queensland Rugby League competition (2nd tier comp under NRL).

I think that there would be more enthusiasm for an A League club on the Sunshine Coast than in Brisbane itself.
Interesting. The folks on Reddit believed that there's little support for soccer there, it's all rugby. The attendance on the weekend seems to suggest otherwise. They were certainly on my potential expansion shortlist and have cemented that position now (like it means anything in reality haha).
