2025 Australia Cup final rounds thread

A game that didn’t go to great heights, Sydney had alot of young players out there and looked ok but they will strengthen their squad with more players.
You can tell Auckland have got the quality of players but they didn’t show enough to threaten Sydney’s goal keeper.

The pens well less said the better, players slipping over, feel for young Macalister one of the worst pens you will see but he’s only a kid so I hope he’s ok from that experience.
Akon came across as very green.

He tried too hard to do too much so many times and undid any threat he had created in the build up. If he gets settled he could be an effective attacking option.

The way he took the awkward shot on the turn when Lolley was charging onto the ball it looked like Lolley then floored him on purpose.

I saw quite a few times where Sydney players threw up their hands in despair at somethign Akon had done or not done.

SFC will be a better playing side as they play their top team and get into the rhythm of the game again.

But so many whingers - and the way one of the young Sydney players came at the ref from behind, grabbed her arm and turned her to face him I was disgusted - and he didn't get a card for it. Swarming and whinging is a curse.

At least we got some comedy act at the end of the game with the penalty kicks, I needed a good laugh and SFC didn't disappoint.

Oh, I haven’t listened to it in years - but I know what they yap on about thanks to their Twitter accounts.

Truthfully, it’s better this way as whenever the station-jocks did pretend to take an interest in the game, it always ended in tears one way or another ie. their lack of ⚽️knowledge/unwillingness to learn was glaringly obvious..and in the station’s early years I recall hearing bogans ringing up the talkback-line complaining to the effect of “why’re youse talking about this w0gb@ll sh1t for, this is 🇦🇺
Always makes me laugh when the Aussie bogan calls it “wogball”, when it is actually an “ Anglo” game.

I think Newcastle fans deserve a trophy and be good to see MM also do well
Whatever the match up is now for avondale i think they like the bergers will put everything they have into the semi!

Only hope is that we dont see the same refereeing like other matches vs NPL sides with an overly cautious protection of the aleague teams!

Hi pat, I just have a soft spot for them got screwed in 2018 gf and just a lovely part of the world

Did the referee apologise to the club after that Grand Final. Mark Shields did to CCM (admitted 6 months after the event) when he overruled the sighted AR to not give a penalty to CCM to draw the Grand Final. This led to the Danny Vukovic send off for his 'high five'. Mark Milligan the Jets manager should remember it because the previous week he repeatedly poked Shields in the chest with no sanction.

Yes I do hold a grudge for a long time. BTW Mark Milligan the Jets manager reneged on a handshake deal to start his A-League career at CCM. For years while Ian Ferguson was at the Mariners he would make sure he avoided him - it was funny to watch him scurry off straight after a game.

I wonder whether the fact that the Jets are overrunning Macarthur has anything to do with their old midfield of Brattan and Caceres against the younger Badolato and Adams.

Fergie was a feared man wherever he went. Nobody messed with him in Scotland. Paolo Di Canio was snuck out a back door after Fergie took him up on his offer to break his neck.

Milligan also walked out on Sydney mid season, but crawled back a few weeks later when he never got a European contract.

What a great couple of goals by Newcastle to make it 3 nil at the 78th minute
Jets playing electric football.

Just constant motion, passing options and accurate passing.

Really enjoyable to watch and always a pleasure when 'special' passes are made when you are expecting the usual safe ball passage - and the number of phases in their play when you think they are getting shut down but immediately they are back at it from a different angle.

He’s only 16, I think that alone he will improve and get better.

But I’ve got a feeling Sydney isn’t done recruiting players especially with clouds of Costa and Sena hanging around…
