Yes - finals are pointless in this country, essentially.

Although, I do like that Northern NSW has replaced their finals series in lower divisions of their NPL Pyramid (other states may possibly have done so as well?) with a promotion/relegation series.

Essentially, a slight twist of the traditional top 4 major/minor semi-finals (1v2, 3v4 > Loser of Match 1 v Winner of Match 2 > Winner of Match 1 v Winner of Match 3), where instead of the team that wins the league taking part in the finals (as they'd be automatically promoted), they are instead replaced with the second last placed team from the league above - and the winner of the finals series takes the final spot in the higher league for the following season.

EG, using Zone League 1 (ZL1) and Zone League 2 (ZL2) - lets assume the italicised teams win:

Week 1
11th placed ZL1 v 2nd placed ZL2
3rd placed ZL2 v 4th placed ZL2
Week 2
2nd placed ZL2 v 4th placed ZL2

Week 3
11th placed ZL1 v 4th placed ZL2

11th placed Zone League 1 team remains in ZL1 for the following season.

All sound fantastic ..... especially cant wait for the Galatas interview, maybe we can actually get some answers here (instead of the usual fluff) as i am sure you will give it a red hot go!

Guess your gonna have to sit out this year .. No Aus Cup, No Dockerty Cup, No Championship and a likely first week knockout from NPL finals... Poor Oakleigh.... I guess all the goons can sit in Eaton mall nursing the 8 hour frappe reminiscing on earlier in the season when their was a tiny possibility of South getting relegated.....

Interesting, always skeptical of this kind of thing. Who cares if wests want to invest in the club, but not sure about the rebrand of a historical club

Heard from the main man himself, aki, that we didn't want to be in this competition, even if we finished first or if the other few clubs don't accept it, we won't be either, unless things have changed since then.

I call bullshit! Easy to make a statement like that when the bergers (and to lesser extent thunder) have blown the other aspirants out of the water this season for that spot!

Sadly they probably will, Frantically rushing to open for the last round of the season against South, shouldn't have a problem reaching 1000 capacity against us .... Not many home fans of course so not sure what they are going to with it for the next year? :).

I'm just telling you my point of view. Aki was asked right in front of me if we we're going to be applying for that new league, he said no we don't think it'll be a success so we're not going to waste our time and money on it.

This was ages ago though, so whether things have changed or not, I don't know. Did Oakleigh apply to join the league at the start? If they didn't, then i think he's telling the truth.
