Ryan Reynolds-owned Wrexham set to face Melbourne Victory

Does a pretty good job to be fair

Poor guy keeps tweeting himself in hospital. Wonder whats wrong
He's a nice bloke(I've met him a couple of times@ Victory's ALW side's matches) no doubt, but in saying that he's prob a bit too nice for his own good - he's on good terms w/a lot of these influencer-types like Claudes Fabiano, most of whom I consider to be a pox on the game here. Also, he claims to be pro-further reform ie. pro/rel for the A-League but he's never really been even pseudo-militant about it either.

Re. his health-issues, I think it's some bone-marrow deficiency or summat - he tweeted years ago that he underwent an experimental stem-cell treatment for it.

The idiot I mentioned by name has worked w/SBS, Optus and BeIn Sport's ⚽-telecasts; he and his clique of fellow-numpties had a podcast/YouTube channel of their own a couple of years ago(most infamously had Danny Townsend as a guest to justify the whole Sydney-GF fiasco)

oh wow, I was glad he appeared on some pod but everyone was like "who the heck are these guys"?

Don't even remember the name of the pod, don't think it gets advertised even on a league reddit

gosh I miss the world game

Have to admit I was impressed with Wrexham.

When I used to watch the Championship and League 1, when Fox covered it, and when Jedi played for Palace in the Champ, only Benitez's team, plus Notts Forest and Derby County, played football on the deck in the Champ. Luongo's Swindon in league 1, also played it. Most of the rest played hoofball. Pim thought it was rubbish!

I think a commentator said Wrexham came 3rd in League 1.

If other teams play like Wrexham in League 1 and Champ, there has been a metamorphosis in style. Based on my obs, particularly in the first half when both teams played seniors :

* Wrexham had nice rhythm changes in their game. They mixed up fast and slow tempos.

* Wrexham appeared to dominate Vic in 1v1 s - body on body contact, plus heading duels.

* Both Wrex wingers appeared to out-head the Vic FBs. They also had neat ball control.

* Wrex's ability to condense space in Ball Possession Opposition when Vic had the ball was very good. Without closing down space with intensive Squeezing, they still managed to force MV to play in less time and space on the ball than the inverse.

* Players supported the ball carrier much better than when I used to watch Champ and League 1, by proactively opening passing lanes before he received the ball. Wrex players on the ball had more passing options.

* Wrex went to 3 at the back when they had the ball, to create more bodies and passing options further up the pitch.

Not sure how many players are Welsh or English in Wrex team?

If Aussie players play Champ or League 1 football now, it appears to be a better option than it was 10 -15 years ago.

Others have told me off forum the Champ and L 1 have improved immeasurably. It looks like they could be right. England has depth in quality players if the Champ is playing deck football. Again when I used to watch it, the ball turned over so frequently, because most teams could not sustain possession for any length of time. It was a second ball, hoofball league.

Meanwhile people on reddit are trying to compare the league to the football in the UK lol.

Are people this insecure? Who cares we should appreciate what we have here given the sports challengers.

The game here is doing a pretty good job with exporting playing and now coaching talent to overseas leagues we will never be able to keep our best talent due to the competitive global nature of this sport this is hidden in the discourse.

The sooner we stop comparing ourselves to the leagues overseas especially in friendly games the better the sport will be in accepting what we have.

I suspect it’s just Wrexham who play this ‘cultured’ in contrast to the stereotypical image one has of non-Prem 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 football.

I can’t speak for the level of ⚽️ing knowledge Ryan Reynolds & Rob McElhenney had prior to buying the club, but I hazard to guess that even if it were close to none, they’d mandate that the side “play more like Brazil” or something to that effect…

The vast majority of those are just gloryhunting casuals who know SFA about ⚽️ outside of videogames and their parents’ cable-TV subscription..

only Scotland has resisted the change to deck football, and even then you have the old firm and the occasional side playing a modern way

cultured football has become the norm in england to be honest

the stereotype started changing a few years ago

They were ok in the day, albeit, week old news. The internet has far surpassed all of that, thankfully.

Maybe an online fanzine style publication. Something like the British magazine 'When Saturday Comes. ..
Studs up ran for 26 months

online fanzine might be a nice option to get a feeler. Wouldn't mind something cheap though in print assuming you can print and distribute for less than 50c a mag...

He commentates on NPL match streams and writes about all levels of football with equal respect... thats enough in my book.
