Australian transfers 25-26 Winter

Talent is so hard to predict in the younger years. I remember reading Lyon's strategy during their extended run of success was to pick up guys who had done well as under 23s. This was a much better predictor than anything in the younger age groups, where star kids often drop out from.

Even so you still lose guys at that age.
I was in a workshop at Football Tas HQ where this topic was raised with then Melb Vic coaching staff, when Kevin M was head coach.

KM said it was very complex when trying to rationalise why some players developed late and others faded out early.

Not sure if Valadon or Youlley would count as shorter players though since Valadon is 1.77m and Youlley is 1.84m.
That is a good point, but Valadon looks pretty short compared to most players on the pitch.

Tim Cahill is 1.78m. Jordi V looks to be a lot shorter. Maybe a lot of players are a lot taller than we think?

I think both players look to be shorter than their cohorts.

Sometimes players' heights can be inaccurately listed. I once read former Socceroo captain was 1.88m. When I met him I was expecting him to be a lot taller. He was only about 1.80 - 1.82m tall.

After researching, Wikipedia listed H Jordi V at 1.77m, whilst Fot Mob listed him as 1.74m.

Kasey Vos looks to be a very tall for a 1.80m listing.

Shorter players are advantaged by greater nimbleness, speed on the turn, which enables good ball control in tight spaces, and the ability to pass and move effectively in tight spaces.

Jordi Valadon, Josh Nisbet, Deli ( MacArthur), Rhys Youlley, Bozinovski, are emerging, young, short Aussies. Classy technicians!

Messi, Maradona, George Best are all some of the greatest dribblers of all time, who are short in stature.

It is only the likes of Brazil, Argentina, Portugal and Spain, who have the skill to show up a UEFA problem where there are too many tall players in international teams.
This is a surprisingly simplistic reply. Nisbet's career has been limited by his lack of size. Why mention Messi in regard to my comment on Tilio? He's 8 cm taller, and more heavily built! And I already commented specifically on Maradona. All you are doing here is stating the absolute obvious when my comment was in regard to Tilio.

It didn’t stop Celtic paying an Aus record transfer fee for him, height is not always everything in a footballer.
And I very much hope he makes the grade at the club. He's a fine player. But there's no denying that lack of physical heft will be an issue.

I’m sorry you perceive it that way, FS.

Forums are for posters to express different opinions. I might disagree with someone’s opinion, but strongly uphold their right to express it.

The size issue has constantly arisen in coaching workshops with Football Aus/ FFA. Research has been quoted from all over the globe, particularly with youth WC tournaments - re height of teams and results.

As rep coaches in the system we have had strict criteria laid down by the national body that skill is paramount as a criterion to select players. In the past big, physical players were sought out.

I’m sure some UEFA leagues perceive height as an issue.

A feature of the local NPL in recent times is more short, skilful players playing in the league than past eras.
The quality of play has improved too.

Well that's a bombshell and a half. Goalkeeper Zieler apparently to leave Hannover for Köln. This is akin to Barbarous es staying at one club. Maty Ryan is free....

Zieler to Köln official and Hannover with just one keeper on the books. A loan for Germany U21 keeper seems likely. Maty's wages would just be too high I think.

WU have announced the signing of Kucharski despite still being under a transfer embargo.
Jaiden Kucharski at Western United for the next two seasons through 2026-27. The club is under a registration ban from FIFA meaning they can still transfer players but cannot register them.

Kucharski is one of those players that could have made a decent level in europe if he was getting starts 5 years ago rather when he is turning 24
Yeah 23-27 seems the real kick on or crash age. Botic 23 now so it's really time to pack on the muscle and have 3 great years by 26.
