Australian transfers 25-26 Winter

Najjarine is another who was given the spotlight at the Asian Cup to qualify for the Olympics and did alright but fell off. There were better options for the Olympics proper like McGree. Looking at that Asian Cup squad has the typical mix of those who've gone on well and those who've disappeared.

Just goes to show it's a marathon and not a sprint. The starting CB pairing of Ryan and Tass are just glaring in their departure into obscurity.

Najjarine has since been delisted by Western United also which highlights how much he's fallen off.

Tilio made the move to Celtic at the end of Ange's last season at the helm, when Brendan Rodgers was becoming the new head coach.

yeah I dunno

yeah I dunno
Yeah they had been scouting him for years and came just as ange left.

I think it was ange scouting him

Talent is so hard to predict in the younger years. I remember reading Lyon's strategy during their extended run of success was to pick up guys who had done well as under 23s. This was a much better predictor than anything in the younger age groups, where star kids often drop out from.

Even so you still lose guys at that age.

Najjarine had quite a lot of promise when he was coming through, it’s a shame he hasn’t fulfilled he’s potential but this is part of football.

For every promising young talent there is also a late bloomer that fulfils its potential.

Pretty sure Ange was gone. Would have been one of Rodgers early signings. But could have already been in the works who knows.
Tilio said he'd been talking to Celtic for a while before he signed so clearly he'd been identified by Ange but was one of Rodgers' first signings. Then he arrived at Celtic and Rodgers thought: what the fuck have I done?

Long term injury didn't help when he first arrived. So many Oz players get soft tissue injuries in their first season in the UK. No doubt the intensity of training doesn't help but the softness of the pitches compared to hard AL pitches must also contribute.

He picked up the injury at that underage tournament in France just before he moved to Scotland. He was injured before he even had a chance to train/play with them and was playing catch up from the start. He was in good form that season and carried that into the Toulouse tournament. I expect that he would have had a better look-in if he’d been able to start like that. I’m not saying he would have been a success, but he could have given a better account of his abilities. All that being said, Celtic may be tempted to hold onto him for the moment, as Jota got a serious injury at the end of last season and there’s talk of Kuhn leaving. They’ll be needing depth on the wings, at least for the start of the season. He has been training with them already (there have been photos circulating among fan groups). Most are quietly optimistic that he’ll have a chance to show why they signed him.

"We've virtually agreed between the club and Como, so it looks at this point that he'll be on his way, but we just have to wait for confirmation," Rodgers said after a 1-0 friendly win over Queen's Park.

Celtic paid a fee in the region of £3m for Kuhn, with reports suggesting Como will pay more than five times that amount.

I agree that there is no reason that Tilio can't make an impact at Celtic if he has a full pre-season and puts in some good performances.

Tilio's unresovable problem as a footballer is height. He is 1.63 m (according to Melbourne City), 7 cms shorter than Messi. That represents a significant glass ceiling in professional football.
Shorter players are advantaged by greater nimbleness, speed on the turn, which enables good ball control in tight spaces, and the ability to pass and move effectively in tight spaces.

Jordi Valadon, Josh Nisbet, Deli ( MacArthur), Rhys Youlley, Bozinovski, are emerging, young, short Aussies. Classy technicians!

Messi, Maradona, George Best are all some of the greatest dribblers of all time, who are short in stature.

It is only the likes of Brazil, Argentina, Portugal and Spain, who have the skill to show up a UEFA problem where there are too many tall players in international teams.

Not sure if Valadon or Youlley would count as shorter players though since Valadon is 1.77m and Youlley is 1.84m.
