Australian transfers 25-26 Winter

Surely Tim Cahill can never be 'unremarkable'???
I think there was one period where he didn't score for Everton for a year. I didn't watch Everton 90min every week but the fans speak so highly of his skill and brains that he's often named the best Everton player in the last 20 years. Fans are asked and 'Tim Cahill' is the near immediate response.

Comments last season said Merino is the best midfield header ever. Ah, he's 1.89cm. Cahill was 1.78 and could head it into a dime. Killer instincts around goal, with his feet too.

Don't like these young player loan returns to the A League. Season starts way later and there's less football. You'd be better of trying any league there with an earlier start and more matches available.
It'll be good for Lino and Victory. He'll start and it's a decent level. We replace Bos. Personally happy its with a younger player than revisiting an old vet like Davidson.

Did Rogic do so much at MV? Mooy is an exceptional example.

My issue is they've got to be playing regularly and the later A League start and fewer available matches can jeopardise that. Nothing wrong with the level which is higher than a lot of continental loan options but the sharpening of skills in this development stage is paramount.
Rogic didn't do a lot (by his high standards) at MV but he did come back for a reset and then had a great career OS.

Turned down a transfer to Arsenal at the time he signed his second Celtic contract which pissed me off as the Mariners would have received a decent chunk of somewhere between 20 and 30 mill pounds. If it was 20% we've missed out on a shitload.

rogics season before returning to celtic was probably as successful as tillio's

hopefully a sign tillio can exceed all expectations

When we learned about Rogic's issues of trying to become a parent. It made so much sense how he'd shrug his shoulders after scoring some goals. A different personality to begin with then a personal struggle. It's OK that he maybe didn't reach the heights some thought he was capable of. Had an excellent career in the end.

Totally OK but he and Mooy weren't fans of the microphone.

Tilio's unresovable problem as a footballer is height. He is 1.63 m (according to Melbourne City), 7 cms shorter than Messi. That represents a significant glass ceiling in professional football.

as long as Europe is the main destination of ambitious players rather than south america or east asia it will be difficult for short players to get an opportunity, not impossible, but certainly difficult

https://brisbaneroar.com.au/news/brisbane-roar-goalkeeper-matt-acton-to-depart/

Brisbane Roar keeper Matt Acton has been delisted by the club and won't return for ALM season 2025-26 upon the expiry of his contract. He's been at the Roar for more than ten years across three separate stints, and was part of the 2013-14 Premiership/Championship double winning squad.
he looked well and truly good enough to be competition for the #1 spot, so that's a shame

Najjarine’s time at AL level is done now surely
Thought he looked really promising when younger. I’m surprised Najjarine hasn’t kicked on?

https://wufc.com.au/news/western-united-confirms-player-staff-departures/

Western United have delisted four players upon the expiration of their contracts. James Donachie, Kane Vidmar and Ramy Najjarine three of the four players to be delisted ahead of season 2025-26.
Wow!

Last season was quite taken with Kane V. It seems Leonard replaced him this season, but KV’s last ditch defending has been impressive.

I think Donachie was injured a lot, but provides invaluable experience when fit.

Surprised both have been released?

Donachie being released isn’t remotely surprising tbh
