Even though Benfica is a huge club, both in Portugal and Europe, looking at some of Circati's recent games, they are playing some much easier games than he would have had consistently in Serie A with Parma.

Most of us watching the WC would have thought that Souttar was just as good or better than Circati, but whereas the latter finds himself at Benfica, a UEFA heavyweight, Souttar is still in English League 1!

Irank moving to Sporting is a big step up from the English Championship, although the lower ranked teams in the Portuguese top division might not be as good as the mid-ranked and lower ranked English Champ teams.

However, it should be a big step up when Irank's Sporting Lisbon plays Benfica, Porto, Boavista and Braga in the domestic comp, and when Sporting play Champ or Europa League intra-continental tournament football in Europe.

Brazil 38 games + 6-8 games State Leagues (Paulista Gaucho etc)

Paraguay 44 games per league season A&C.

Ecuador 40 games per league season

El Salvador 44 games per league season

Colombia 40 games per season. Better tier teams 52 games per season

Guatemala 44 games per season

Honduras 40 games per season. Better teams 48 games per season.

Plus domestic cup games, plus Lib & Suda games if at the right club. Most of these run close to 10 month seasons.

Another set of avenues for younger players to explore if they want senior experience with players that are hell of a lot hungrier.

If we only the pollies, big businesses cared about a sport than is connected throughout the whole world.
Imagine Albo saying he wants to turn Australia into a global powerhouse and wants to see all investment into football and more money into the aleague where it can attract some of the highest payers in the world to come to our shores because this is what it will take for football to turn its fortunes around.
But Australia has a strong obsession of keeping its national pastimes alive for not much in return meanwhile they posting some of the highest TV revenues in the world.

But hey let’s invest in a sport that wants to play in Vegas where no one cares about or in a sport where it has no relevance of Australia.
Australia needs to change its priorities with football, not the other way around.

Its not going to happen.

The biggest investment we had in local football was during peak A-League.

Top tier corporate sponsors like Hyunda and Samsung, crowds in the 30,000+ as high as in the 60,000's for regular season games, coverage in local newspapers, centre page spreads, hundreds of millions of dollar TV deals, slick TV coverage

Literally $billions of dollars.

And what do we have to show for it?

Nothing.

And you know what? This is why even IF we had the same money we had, I believe football in this country would find a way to squander it. I am amazed ANY sponsors actually wish to get in bed with us. The risk on investment is just not worth it.

Souttar is about to move to Wrexham in the Championship.

Benfica offers a greater range of opponents. The teams Circati plays in Europe are bigger than the ones he played in Italy, but the bottom of the Portuguese top division is lower than Italy too. The move is fine!

Utterly bad management, short sightedness and not having a plan b then c etc......
You got have a product/commodity that cover a wide net and good planning and execution.
AL peak was a given to expand and open up to capitalise on the commercial success.
Fail, huge fail + that was the time to heal wounds, offer the opening to the core of the game.
Never say never though - open the game, build ground up not top down, the people are there to support and sponsors are there to spend even in the hardest times.
Companies/ogarlords luv spending $ in sport because of the exposure and reach, they keep coming back or other new ones replace them.

Portugal like France has earned a global reputation as one of the ultimate finishing schools and talent factories for young footballers....

It's not just the playing of league and cup games either.

Because of historical scouting networks particularly with those deep cultural and linguistic bridges connecting Portugal to South America and France to West Africa mean these leagues attract the absolute best raw teenage/early 20s talent from around the globe.

And this creates an ultra-competitive daily training environment that pushes every young player to elevate their game.

Personally I think the two best places to be for your young players in Europe.

It goes both ways imo, football needing a stronger purpose in what it stands for and where it wants to be and for MSM Australia to get to grips with the biggest sport in the world.
