what happens to ambitious clubs like Sutherland Sharks? I doubt they wanna be paying that much money to play kids week in week out.

Hoping the H & A season is open not only to the 8 Federation Clubs.

I assume new clubs will be allowed to apply and I think Sutherland will be one of them.

Agreed, or Melbourne knights, Heidelberg etc for that matter. It’s one thing if an nsd is much more open to allowing ambitious clubs to make that jump if they’re able through one mechanism or another. It’s another of these clubs are still trapped down there playing in leagues half made up by u23s.

As I say, I dare say many of those u23s teams will probably end up getting relegated further down the pyramid. It’s hard enough for Sydney fc, wanderers, victory, city to stay up let alone an nsd clubs u23s

Yep, don't think we have enough talented kids to keep all the AL academies in the top tier which I think is normal. Only Porto, Benfica and Sporting currently have their B teams in the Portuguese 2nd tier. The rest bounce up and down the leagues.

It’s the same club is it not? Pretty sure Sydney united played under the name South Sydney Croatia for a few years in their earlier years

South Sydney Croatia started in 1967, They changed the name as NSW Soccer Federation was trying to "anglicise" ethnic clubs, us alongside Yugal were targeted because of crowd violence.

They played out at Wentworth Park and took on the Green & Red colours, cause of the area, and South Sydney Rabbitohs. this lasted for 1-2 seasons.

Yea thought it was just one of Sydney United’s previous names, have always seen it referred to as part of the clubs history. Your previous post just made me think I had it wrong and it was a separate club which existed for a couple of years

How much do clubs pay to compete in the NPL? I'm starting to think that being pushed down at least one level, if not two, is appropriate for the academy teams, particularly in NSW and VIC. If remaining clubs are paying big $$$ to play and half the league is academy teams, it would leave a bitter taste.

Like @theFOOTBALLlover, I imagine Sutherland would be very keen to put their hand up for the NSD, given their new financial backing and ambition, as well as clubs like Melbourne Knights, Adelaide City, Lions FC, Olympic Kingsway. I'm sure the initial impact to the NPL's will be a little rough, but over time it'll definitely benefit them - a rising tide lifts all boats.

Will be interesting to see what security/policing arrangements are like there. I doubt you’re gonna be having much luck smuggling pyro in etc put it that way. Lowey the current president of the Hakoah club. Have passed by a few times during the construction by chance, only soccer ground/grandstand I’ve ever seen which has more corporate boxes than seats

It will be policed by the cops at the front no diff to all their Jewish schools and you bet cameras are installed double than the norm.

Allegedly riot squad have been frequent attendees at games pertaining to them this season. We shall see

Steven Lowey was part of the tender process and construction, along with 6 other wealthy Jewish people

This is true, we saw them at King Tom when our youth played them. They go to every away game with them, and have their own personal security lol. All funded by you and me of course.

$28.5 mill from the Fed Gov, $26 mill from the NSW Gov + $32 mill in fed & state funding

Now imagine how good this would be for our game if the government funded football in this country, and not just one club.

That money is surely for more than just the football facility though? The whole precinct is enormous.

Yea their primary concern seems to be being a club for the Jewish community, on field success in the football are a secondary concern. They’ve yo-yod between npl 1 and 2 in recent decades. Will be interesting to see if once this project is finished more money becomes available for developing the playing squad. They certainly could if they wanted to, and did in the past

Have there been many decent Australian Jewish footballers? Sapsford and Swibel are the only ones that have played A-League who come to mind.

Im pretty sure most Jewish clubs fund their OWN private security At least I know the Jewish schools down here in Melbourne do - a mates brother worked for the security firm.
