Dual nationals: the ones that got away

Brendan Gan and Matthew Davies played for Malaysia but were never likely to be capped for us. Same for Iain Ramsay, who played for Phillipines. There was some debate at the time about Andy Rose's eligibility but he never showed much interest anyway and was never capped internationally. Given that Luke Vickery gained Indonesian citizenship last month and Indonesia doesn't accept dual citizenship, I guess that means he's gone now. Mitchell Baker now represents Indonesia and scored a hat-trick for them on debut.

And Shane Lowry and Bradley Tapp (both JDT), both just became naturalised Malaysians.

I get that but how can they be registered as local Malaysian players if they haven’t completed naturalisation? Then again, the Sultan of Johor is the owner and he can basically do whatever he wants, he even has his own army.

Looking at the above. As good as our Golden gen were, imagine how good we'd have been with Vieiri, Seric, Ergic, Simunic, Papadopoulos, Golum and Samaras added to it 😲

Are you only counting ones that played for good teams? If not there's a few more I can think of.

Segecic and Triantis were born here. They are Australian by birth and play for other countries because Popovic was too bloody minded to lock them in.

I don't care that they were born here.

The notion they had to be "locked in" to play for us says everything about where their allegiances lay/.

If they REALLY wanted to represent Australia, they would have. Its as simple as that.

Please list them. I listed all the ones that were genuine losses where we wanted to cap them but they chose else. Then again several of them we didnt even try cap shockingly, including Simunic, Papadopoulous, Samaras and Ergic. Seric we hilariously called him up the same time as Croatia for a match against each other, Australia losing 3-0.

They play for other countries because they wanted to. Popovic didn't sign the transfer papers, they did.

He is nowhere near good enough as modern Socceroo manager - more akin to Brian Green or Jimmy Shoulder though with a better cohort of players to choose from (though those players were semi-pro).

Getting back to Segecic and Triantis, THEY chose to not to play for Australia. They were what 21, 22 years old at the time? Plenty of time to time to make the squad

You're like a broken record player on this. As said countless times before, both Segecic and Triantis initially made the decision to commit to Australia despite being eligible for other countries. That was their decision, NOT to play for another nation. Both then changed their mind after being shafted by Popovic despite being deserving of game time, whilst inferior players were preferred. You can't conveniently look at their decision to represent Croatia / Greece in isolation, and ignore all that came before it including their initial decision and the reason they changed their mind. Both will go down in the history books as massive man-management failures. That will be Popa's legacy. I know you're too blinkered on this to change your mind, so I'm probably wasting my time explaining it again.

If you're performing exceptionally at work and your boss keeps overlooking you for promotion in favour of peoplethat aren't nearly as good, and eventually you get fed up and move to a new company, who is the problem? You or your boss?
