The article says develop a model...it does not say copy the existing A-League model...

What the Japanese model did was look at sustainability first and then added to it....

The model excludes no one and does not proscribe what's required other than sustainability...

Its equally true that not models in Europe are the same...

This model copies an existing Asian power house model and Japan is very often referred to as a country we should copy...

Think about how many of these people have to give their 2 cents. This is just the boards, then there are all the committees and sub-committees. I'm sure some of these people are genuinely good people with good intentions. I'm sure some of them are not. What I am sure of, is there are way too many of them.

Let me get this straight. Are you saying that there is not separate entities with a separate boards for Football London, Football West Midlands, Football Yorkshire, etc? Surely that can't be correct. Are you suggesting that one association makes decisions for all of these regions?

It was a quick google as mentioned, obviously it was dumbed down and top leagues EPL/EFL - there was/is more links you'd have to sit down and read buckets loads of pdf's etc someguyfc that I couldn't be farked.

I tend to think they are under Counties (non league pyramid ?)
I saw this matter of interest - obviously a board would have to report to someone.

I’ll split this into short term and medium term.

Short term: 16 teams in A-League and 12 in NST (1 pro/rel spot between them), and the premiers of the 8 or 9 federations play off (group format the cheapest) for 1 promotion spot to NST (with 1 coming down). Keep it simple and affordable. NST clubs will need to be professional. NPL premiers not turning pro miss out on the promotion playoffs.

Medium term: 16 teams in A-League and NST (2 pro/rel between them), and top 2 from each federation enter the promotion playoffs (group format again, possibly with two group stages) for 2 spots going up to the pro NST (with 2 coming down). With 2 going up from NPL, you need 2 from each fed in the playoffs otherwise it’s unfair and lacks merit. I’ve been a fan of a coefficient for this, but that’s really punishing the present clubs for the poor performances of the past clubs in that fed. Again, any clubs not turning pro miss out on the promotion playoffs.

NPL teams promoted to NST will have their youth team inserted into the tier below NPL. This keeps pro/rel from screwing around with league numbers and teams shifting all the way down the pyramid. A-League can’t have youth teams in NST, and NST can’t have youth teams in NPL.

On a national third tier, I can’t see it being affordable. There would be even more Perth teams blowing out costs as well, it would probably turn out to be much more expensive than an NST. Just use the federation playoffs, it would be fair and roughly a quarter of the cost of a league. Perth teams is one of the biggest factors in costs. For example, a 12 team NST with a Perth club would cost about the same as a 15 team NST without them. So Perth is a large factor in the growth path of the NST and how many teams they want.

There’s also the idea of merging some federations to bring the eight tier-3 federations down to four or five, very much like NBL1 does. It would probably be a question for the federations… for example, would most of NPL Victoria like to see Devonport join them in a new “NPL South”, two federations going into one there.

I think it would be more feasible for Capital Football to amalgamate with Football New South Wales instead of creating a new NPL South especially given the storied history of many NPL Victoria clubs and their reluctance to jump ship from their existing comp unless they're forced to do so.

That was just an example of a "South" conference that would be the cheapest, i.e. Tassie joining Vic. NPL South would just be NPL Vic with one or two Tassie sides. Very cheap.

"East " could be NSW, NNSW and ACT together; again very affordable.

But these aren't really my preference and would add more complexity that the feds wouldn't even want to entertain it. Just keep it simple with a group stage CL format acting as a pseudo third tier.
