NPL 2026

We have 3 teams go down in a 14 team league competition and a top 6 finals format. It has kept interest in all parts of the league ladder.

It’s one of the few things that Football Victoria has done well.
And completely opening up the pyramid which wasn’t the case when “npl” first started and still isn’t really the case in other states. Granted vic being smaller the other mainland states probably helped with the logistics of it.

Said it once and will say to again, so many great little clubs trapped in the lower leagues of nsw, often times ones with more substance and character and more ability to generate interest/crowds than the ones in npl 1

Currently Marconi 1-0 Sutherland

Rockdale ilinden 1-1 Wollongong wolves

Both 75 mins in

Pitch looking marginally better at Marconi

FT: Marconi 1-0 Sutherland
Too little too late imo for Marconi, they already thrown away the premiership. Playing for 2nd essentially

Rockdale ilinden 1-2 Wollongong
Last minute winner for Wollongong breaking their losing streak. Big opportunity for ilinden to make up some ground with Sutherland losing. As we say, no one wants that championship spot

Blame Gazy getting smashed 18-0 every week as to why they're scared of opening up the pyramid

Only 3 points separate 5th to 13th. Crazy.

How bad are some teams from 5th and below, where you can lose more game than you win and still make the 6 lol.
We are absolutely terrible better off not making finals just to be a number in the finals other clubs deserve it more

New coach next year confirmed resume isn’t the greatest but can’t be worse than this putrid football Paul Dee has served up and the ridiculous signings too

Any idea what’s being built behind the goals at ilinden sports centre ?

Still not a fan of finals. Almost as bad as the AL where half the teams make it. Can't call a team that finishes 6th and wins the GF the champions.
Only problem is as we discovered when it went to a first past the post for a season or two you need something for teams to play for. In other leagues globally that either comes from promotion spots or continental qualification spots. Npl has neither. So you end up having vast majority of the league playing for pride second half of the season.

Imo finals would be more acceptable if it was qualification for a national finals Ala the aus championship format if they ever do away with the concept of foundation clubs. No state finals, just the top 4 or whatever qualify for the national finals
