I wonder if purchasing a club would have to be a club from Melbourne ??

I mean i'd rather a club from the npl take its spot considering there are plenty of successful clubs to choose from

Tell me more. Never heard about that one. I knew about a Wolves only bid funded by the owner of WIN but never got beyond rumour stage. Never knew the Foz was backing something. Still Sutho are an ambitious club, be interested to see what they do the next 5 years.
 
Good riddance to an entity that should never have been granted a licence in the first place.

Football Australia chose this mob with no stadium, no fans, no administration and nothing but a parcel of land that pertained to a property deal. Everyone could see that this would never have worked.

Wanted to split games between Sutherland & Wollongong, Foz backed

Sydney FC opposed it because they thought it would cut into their membership base

They shouldn’t be a joint team, but there’s no reason to create a new one out of thin air when there’s no demand for it. I don’t understand the way of thinking, the point of clubs like Sydney fc or Melbourne victory vs the traditional clubs was that they’d have citywide appeal untied to any specific ethnic group. They broadly succeeded in filling that niche.

The only reason western Sydney wanderers worked is because there was a ground swell of locals who were actively campaigning for their own club. No such equivalent groundswell exists for another team. What’s the point of now having founded a team like Sydney fc retroactively going back and carving up the metro area and starting new franchises for specific suburbs or regions etc. they have Sydney fc if they want it, or they have Sutherland in the npl if they want. At this point if you don’t have a team which captures your interest in Sydney you’re not really interested or deserving of a club
