The next two will be Canberra and Christchurch (I know another Kiwi club) - but until p & r there will be no NPL club and no made up club where there is a viable NSD club.

Tell me more. Never heard about that one. I knew about a Wolves only bid funded by the owner of WIN but never got beyond rumour stage. Never knew the Foz was backing something. Still Sutho are an ambitious club, be interested to see what they do the next 5 years.
The sad thing about this was good ol Les Murray was endorsing this with Foster as well.

  • Region: Proposed a "super club" representing the St George, Sutherland Shire, and South Coast/Illawarra regions.
  • Financial backing: Underwritten by the Jiayuan Group with $12 million in secured bank guarantees.
  • Craig Foster's role: Named as the intended head / director of football for the franchise.
  • Outcome: The bid was ultimately rejected by Football Federation Australia (FFA) when expansion slots were awarded elsewhere.

Sucks to see another club fail. It's not like location is the reason for success and failure but partly so. Wollongong, Canberra and Tasmania should have had teams first. Fresh and somewhat more established markets while Macarthur and WU are just big city offshoots.

The league needs more sustainable small teams to offer minutes to young players. We don't need to reach for the stars but rather get players playing and try to make it tribal albeit the challenge with newly established clubs.

Yes, it was quite funny with SMFC seeming to think that they actually owned that place.
Just a precursor to an Indian takeover and moving them out there. Slap a bit of orange on green on the kit and you're set!

A Canberra side in the ALM will be just another WU waiting to happen. Agree Christchurch needs to cum in but the next ALM from Australia should be Sth Melbourne. They have everything needed like youth teams/NPL side and a stadium with a decent fan base that would only grow if they were to be let in and the club would be stable unlike %70 of ALM clubs. I don't know for sure but id say they would pull in better crowds then City.

Should be and will be two different things.

Pete was 100% correct since before WU was chosen. But I don't think there's anyone remaining from those days at FFA? He might have better luck chasing up the individuals, wherever they are these days. I'd like to hear from them too, just some acknowledgement that they f***ed up!
