2027 Asian Cup

First one he baulked at. Leave it or go for it.

Second one, two fold. Tell your defence not to leave someone alone at the top of the box and second attack the ball and take the attackers out as well.

Basically a young keeper's growing into the job and gelling with the defence.

Yeah, felt like he got bullied/out-muscled by Ballogun and Freeman(?). He needs to hit the weights and fill out a bit.

Agree. If he is indeed a modern sweeper keeper, he should have been all over the assist. The opposite of that was his excellent intervention way out against Paraguay (I think...memory is already fading but there was one against someone).

This is what I want to see at the Asian Cup.

Leave the 5-4-1 for Japan. All other teams we should front foot.

I don't care if Souttar starts for Herrington, or if he comes in for Italiano and Circati slots into RB.

You could also pick your adventure at CM but this is our most progressive pairing.

If we go 5-4-1 all tournament Popovic can get f. We need better transition and set pieces.

I like the first option but with two riders, Bos and McGree need to be fit - I doubt want to re-injure them because they are very important long term. Second while Italiano is the best option at the moment RB remains the weakness it has been for years.

The other next point is in easier games I'd probably go with O'Neill as the 6 and play two nominal 10s

The last point is that Okon-Englster is a poor screener. He needs to be competing for the 10 role - that is where his strength lies and to be honest where he drifts to when he should be deeper.

Yes assuming players are fit. Agree.

RB is a weakness. We either go Italiano, Miller (if fit) or Circati. It's a drop in quality or a star out of position. It isn't terrible but not ideal either.

I don't mind if O'Neill plays but I prefer that pairing of Okon-Engstler and Robertson. I really want to see what it could offer in a midfield diamond.

I think Okon-Engstler is fine in a pivot. I prefer McGree, Volpato or Robertson at 10.

This is what a sans person would do. Popovic isn't sane.

This starting lineup is so exciting! With the talent we have, this is definitely the formation we should be rolling with toward the 2030 World Cup. I wouldn't mind seeing Circati play as a more defensively minded right-back, especially with an attacking left-back like Bos on the other side.

Unfortunately, with Bos ruled out of the Asian Cup, it'll be interesting to see who steps up. I expect Behich to get the nod, but I'm hoping K. Bos can get some minutes this season and push his way into contention. Are there any other left-backs who could be a smokey for the AC squad?

Bos is not ruled out of the Asian Cup. His injury is a usually a maximum of 6 months from surgery to playing and that surgery was on July 12th and our first game of the Asian Cup is on Jan 9th so it's 5 months and 28 days.

But more importantly, Bos said "I'm not sure if I'll be about to start playing or if I would've been playing already."
Basically saying he'll be able to play during that period it's just a decision on whether we select him or not. Also, like we saw a hundred times at the World Cup, teams brought their best injured players to play in the later stages of the tournament, a similar thing could happen here.

I'd give him like an 80% chance of being selected. Unfortunate for Feyenoord to miss out on him just as he is about to return but perhaps he returns a couple weeks earlier, that's also what Feyenoord said they expect. I think it'll be a Souttar situation, he'll probably return mid-late December and it'll be whether or not he can prove his fitness to Popa. It's a sketchy timeframe but he is far from being ruled out.

We picked Leckie and he didn't play until the knockout stage so we should be including Bos for the latter stages of the tournament.
It all depends on how his recovery goes. His long term career is more important than a possible knockout match. If he hasn't had at a minimum some decent club training time and be available for club selection I wouldn't even consider him. Not worth the risk.

What typically happens is we won't pick the player then they're magically fit a week later in clubland. I agree however that any rash decision here is negligent. Behich it is...

Metcalfe. Played there many times for St Pauli

bookies do not favour us at all? I try to correct my bias but I reckon we have at least a 20-25% chance of winning?

🇯🇵 Japan~65%1.54
🇰🇷 South Korea~29%3.45
🇮🇷 Iran~21%4.76
🇯🇴 Jordan~8%12.5
🇸🇦 Saudi Arabia~3%33.3
🇦🇺 Australia~1%~100.0
🇶🇦 Qatar<1%>100
🇺🇿 Uzbekistan<1%>100
Pretty crazy to have us at 100-1 odds, I’d put a bit of money on that if I were a betting person. And Jordan at 8%, well above hosts at 3%???
