Best overseas leagues for Aussies?

Batty-goal was a beast. Anecdotally he approached Perth Glory years ago to get involved as an assitant coach and was told he wasnt welcome... who knows if true or not?
 
I remember reading an article about
when he retired, Gabriel Batistuta invested heavily in land and livestock, managing farms and cattle alongside his father in Argentina....

He also had a lifelong passion for horses and horse breeding which he shared with his father.

I mean that really is the ultimate second act for such a high profile international footballer....

Ranching and horse breeding – fantastic!!

Or have I been watching too much Yellowstone?? 🤣

Portugal has consistently been ranked by ELO as the clear 6th best league for several years now ever since the Russian and Ukrainian leagues fell away since 2014 onwards. Before that it was a rotation between those three.

Now its closer to France/Germany in 5th than The Netherlands and Belgium in 7th.

Periodically, when I research current rankings in UEFA leagues, they change a lot. Last I looked at one called Global Network, Belgium was 6th in the world outside the Big UEFA Five.

Italy - always in the top 5 leagues in UEFA, but perplexingly, their national team has failed to qualify for 3 successive WCs.

I read somewhere that Batti-gol had returned to Argentina. It might have been on a forum so can't ouch for the truth of it.

Pretty sure Mahazi was also at River Plate youth along with Gavin de Niese. Chris Cristaldo was at Nacional Asuncion youth. In Uruguay, Blake Riccuito signed for Penarol but was loaned out to Canadian and played a season in the second tier there. Of course, there was Richard Porta who played many matches for Nacional and others in the top tier and was eligible to represent Socceroos (I think) but never did.

In South Africa, it was Kearyn Baccus - not Keanu - who played for Kaizer Chiefs. Keanu never played professionally in SA. Matt Sim played a handful of matches for Cape Town City in the top tier. Isaka Cernak played a few matches for Supersport also. A number of ex-AL/NSL Kiwis had much more established careers in South Africa including Jeremy Brockie, Michael Boxall and Michael Utting. As a side note, we've had Australian Michael Urukalo briefly manage Nigerian club Enyimba, a club that won the CAF Champions League in 2003 and again in 2004.

Played for just about every club in the A League too1
He was fairly hopeless.
