Surprised at the QLD and WA, yes. ACT, no. ACT should be 7th or 8th on a sole NPL list (with possibly only TAS behind it).

I think Opta has overstated ACT a loooooot here - it should probably be below the NSW League 1 and VPL1 listed in the data base.
My main references on ACT compared elsewhere are I have two colleagues that moved interstate (not sure if they were primarily football related moves, but they played NPL here in Canberra).

One was starting some times for a mid-table club that played Aus Cup round of 32 a couple years back - he started that game btw - and then moved to Sutherland and was released at the end of last season after I'm not sure how much game time he got.

The other I'm not sure about his first grade game time in Canberra, but was playing U23's regularly (yes, as an under 23) for a top 4 club, and then now is starting and scoring in QPL2.
 
Here are my updated coefficients for the Aus Cup since 2014, and the positional changes over the last three years. Victoria have been ranked number 1 from the beginning and they are only accelerating away from the pack.

WA are moving up with a rocket. I've read on here that it might be due to changes in the local cup scheduling to help out their clubs? Meanwhile in SA, they seem to have done the exact opposite, moving their cup matches later and they are paying the price for it.

One more good result for Fremantle might see WA jump past ACT as well.

I'll try to get around to adding the Championship and NPL Finals Series results as well as they are all relevant.

do you have rankings with teams who participated since 2014?

Wow ACT above WA even before the big jump??

I see what is meant now by the surprise that NNSW was ranked so high on Opta now...

This is what irks me re all the varied rankings.
The FIFA ones, then how many other ones that never align.
Its all over the place.

I've now added in the NPL Finals Series results. This is now looking more like I expect:

Yep. This is for all Aus Cup since 2014. It drops away heavily after these teams so not worth mentioning.

And then clubs like Rockdale and Marconi who have consistently there or thereabouts in the nsw npl over the past 5 years but somehow keep not qualifying for the national rounds etc

Have said before but if the home and away aus championship doesn’t end up happening one option would be good if they just got rid of state based finals and replaced it with a national finals using the aus championship format. No foundation clubs if that were the case obviously, just the top x clubs from each state or whatever. Like champions league qualification in Europe. Some leagues get more spots, some less

We never send our strangest contingent of clubs to these national competitions

In the Aus championship last year we had olympic/Sydney United and Wollongong were they all sat 6th7th and 8th

And we had 2 Npl 2 teams in the Aus cup last year
 
Again, I’m not even saying the vic npl isn’t stronger atm, I’m just suggesting there’s a natural ebb and flow of these things for whatever reason at any given time. Just because it might be the case now doesn’t mean it always was and always will be in the future. And that there’s a fair bit of cross over between the two. This is sport, it’s not analytics or finance, stats only get you so far

The club ranking is for the Aus Cup. I might add the NPL Finals Series for the clubs at a later stage.

I knew you'd bring that up haha. South Melbourne and Sydney United 58 are extremely close on points, but SM go ahead slightly because they've achieved the similar points in fewer matches.

Points are awarded depending on the tier difference. So cupset wins get more points. A bad result against a lower tier loses more points.

it would make sense to add it, as the NSW NPL dominated that era winning 4 of the 7 years it was in its existence.

thats because some NSW clubs don't take the cup seriously and see the cup as a burden

Bit off topic, but you seem fairly switched on/in the know. Any idea whether knights still have any kind of longer term ambition to be part of a national second Div? Or completely abandoned the idea
