I asked chatGPT to do a player profile for Mahdi Nicoll-Jazuli out of curiosity and got this. Cannot vouch for the information or accuracy so read with caution, but thought I'd share.

Mahdi Nicoll-Jazuli – Player Profile (Chelsea)

Age: 16 (born 6 January 2010)
Club: Chelsea Academy (Under-18s/Under-21s)
Nationality: Eligible for England, Australia, Sudan and France; currently represents England at youth level.

Positions

  • Primary: Central Midfielder (No. 8)
  • Secondary: Attacking Midfielder (No. 10)
  • Also capable of: Defensive Midfielder (No. 6)

Earlier in his development he played as a centre-back before being permanently moved into midfield, where his technical ability became much more evident.

Player Style

Nicoll-Jazuli is one of Chelsea's most highly rated academy prospects. He is an attack-minded central midfielder who combines creativity with strong ball-carrying ability. Rather than relying purely on physicality, he excels through intelligence, quick feet and receiving the ball under pressure.

Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso recently described him as possessing "special qualities" rarely seen in a 16-year-old, while Chelsea have fast-tracked his development through Under-18s, Under-21s and first-team training.

Strengths

  • Excellent first touch and ability to receive on the half-turn.
  • Ball progression through dribbling and progressive passing.
  • Vision and creativity in the final third.
  • Close control in tight spaces.
  • Football intelligence—finds pockets between opposition lines.
  • Versatility to play as a 6, 8 or 10.
  • Goal threat arriving from midfield.

Chelsea academy observers consistently praise his composure, technical quality and ability to dictate attacking play despite playing against older opponents.

Areas for Improvement

As with most 16-year-old midfielders, he is still developing:

  • Physical strength against senior professionals.
  • Defensive consistency over 90 minutes.
  • Tactical discipline when deployed deeper as a No. 6.
  • Experience playing regular senior football.

None of these are considered major concerns given his age and development stage.

Key Career Highlights

  • Youngest-ever Chelsea starter in the UEFA Youth League (aged 15).
  • Youngest Chelsea goalscorer in UEFA Youth League history.
  • Helped Chelsea win the 2025–26 Under-18 Premier League National title.
  • Featured for Chelsea Under-21s in Premier League 2 and the EFL Trophy while still only 15–16 years old.
  • Included in first-team training and Chelsea's 2026 pre-season squad.

Key Stats

While academy statistics are not always comprehensively published, notable achievements include:

  • UEFA Youth League record as Chelsea's youngest starter.
  • UEFA Youth League record as Chelsea's youngest scorer.
  • England U16: 8 appearances, 8 goals.
  • England U17: 6 appearances (as of March 2026).

Playing Comparison

His profile has frequently drawn comparisons with Jude Bellingham, not because they are identical players, but because both:

  • can play multiple midfield roles,
  • carry the ball through midfield,
  • contribute goals,
  • possess maturity beyond their age.

He is not as physically dominant as Bellingham was at the same age but displays similar versatility and confidence in possession.

Overall Assessment

Current ceiling: Elite Premier League midfielder if his development continues.

Projection: A technically gifted, modern central midfielder capable of playing anywhere across midfield. Chelsea clearly view him as one of Cobham's standout talents, evidenced by his record-breaking academy achievements, accelerated promotions and exposure to first-team football. If his physical development keeps pace with his technical ability, he has genuine potential to become a Premier League regular and a future senior international.

Dylan Leonard has Triantis covered. Quintal has Segecic covered.

The player most important was Volpato, we don't have players like him.
I agree with you. Triantis would have been good for depth dont get me wrong, but he doesnt move the dial. Volpato and Arena are the ones that really improve us as both offer sonething we dont otherwise have which is zone 13 creativity (Volpato) and a proper targetman (Arena).

I think the other 2 positions we need improvement in is RWB and CM/DM. A really top drawer CM/DM to better O'Neill and Okon especially someone who can help us retain possession ala an Aaron Mooy, would be huge. Maybe that young lad at chelsea can be it, or Robertson stepping up. Or G Okon.

And we need another nimble RWB with similar qualities to Bos and Italiano, who is quick, can dribble and cross with engine to get back. Weve got a few guys who can play as traditional RB like Miller, Circati, Geria etc but arent good or mobile enough going forward to play as RWB. Perhaps Overy or Bennie can fulfil this.

Perfect! Cap him now, we badly need more in CM.

And id cap them all right now. Each one brings a skillset that we are lacking in as it stands and have shown very high potential with big wraps on them right now. They are this generations Kewell and Neill who were capped very early by Eddie Thompson to tie them to us, and what a masterstroke it was and isnt lauded enough.

Yep, get those very willing into some friendly squads and maybe one or two for the Asian cup so they're tied down and also sort the others in the first qualifying round against minnows. For too long have we wasted games against Bangladesh or Nepal older regulars who, despite their passion for the shirt, could also have a window off.

Totally agree mate. Need to be strategic about this. If we cap them and they turn out duds, nothing is lost.

I wish it was as simple as just "capping" them, but honestly, if Popovic calls up Arena and Nicole-Jazuli for the Asia Cup or a World Cup Qualifier leading up to 2030, they're likely to turn it down.

The reality is that if they're good enough to start for Italy or England, they have a much better shot at winning a major tournament like the World Cup or Euros with those nations (even considering Italy's recent World Cup qualification struggles alongside their 2021 Euros victory).

Realistically, the only way we secure them by 2030 is if they miss out on the Italy or England squads right on the eve of the tournament and decide they want the exposure instead.

G.Okon, Overy, Bennie and Neil should be the immediate focus. Overy and Bennie will absolutely be heavily targeted by Scotland and for me I worry that Ireland would be looking at Neil like they did with his dad.

That being said, Football Australia shouldn't ignore Arena or Nicoll-Jazuli. Instead, we just need to exercise the same patience they showed with Volpato
