Err this could go in a number of threads here thought I'll make my own so it doesn't off track another discussion

Victoria seriously fucked up when they pulled out. It’s incredibly stupid and quite a bad look to pull out of hosting a major sporting event. The blame lies on the government of then-Premier Dan Andrews (assisted by now-Premier Jacinta Allan) for sending the state broke and bidding for something Victoria supposedly couldn’t afford.

As for whether Melbourne is our sporting capital, why would it be anyway? AFL capital? Sure. But what other sport is it the capital of? I suppose they’ve got the MCG but almost every major sporting final is held in Sydney. The idea that Melbourne is our sporting capital is flawed, it’s the AFL capital and nothing else.

I have no trouble calling them the sporting capital of Australia, throw in the Spring Carnival. But they do have some big holes as well. Laughable when they claim to be the sporting capital of the world.

There has always been that insecurity kind of cringe for me re our State vs State labels.
I really cgaf for each cap city has its own unique feel which is great and whatever event/s are held are tops to watch be it in Bris Syd Melb talking east coast.
Politically Melb/Vic are a basket case.

There’s just no such thing as the sports capital of Australia. Sydney also has a lot of sporting events. Brisbane has three of the best sporting clubs in the country (Broncos, Heat, Lions).

Yeah I’m sure the whole world’s jealous that Victoria’s got half the AFL lol.

Australian Open tennis, F1…………
Melbourne Cup, Up until it was stolen this year the Moto GP, Boxing Day test and 100K AFl grand final every year... For such a small place we DO punch above our weight, no matter how much LFC hates gay AFL players.

You CGAF but constantly mention it? Which one is it big boy?

I CGAF about Vic sporting debacle But I am big enough as mentioned that each city has its own uniqueness.
Melb is no better than Syd or Bris hosting great sports events.
Sure sure, that explains the "Melbon" and "Gayfl" remarks....
