Boxing day test ? thats on par for eg Sydney NY Test - they are both sellouts considering its holiday period wouldn't matter where held.

hahaha not in my head at all.. you are the one who gets all fired up over AFL... I could care less about VIC, QLD or NSW... I just love South Melbourne (and I dont mean the suburb).

The tennis is insane in January, basically a 3 week festival everyone obsesses over and then its never spoken of again until the following January.

Yea I acknowledge it’s a good event, probably Melbournes only truly international claim to fame re sport if we’re honest, the others are relatively niche imo. I just can’t bring myself to care about any other sport. Many of my family members watch everything, I grew up in a household where sport was always on tv etc. my dad tried his hardest to get me into f1 when I was a kid too, I went with him once or twice but soccer was the only sport related cultural inheritance I really adopted. And btw you can’t even talk at the tennis, they tell you to shut up, what’s the point of going to watch sport if you can’t talk to your mates when you’re there

absolutely agree.
Lets face it, any major international event will always be a festival and great attendance where ever held.
With so much resource invested in it its a given.
F1 brought up - held in Adelaide originally had the same feeling and all no diff being held in Albert Park.
Motogp was also held at Sydney motorsport Park.
They the organisers only move due to higher offers, thats it.

Having spent a good amount of time in Melbourne, New York and London I will say that the Australian open has the best venue out of those 3, apart from the facilities being the most modern they’re also in the city centre where as Wimbledon and flushing are quite far out of central London and manhattan respectively. That coupled with the fact that Melbourne is quite a bit smaller and less international than those cities really means that the aus open as an event takes over the city in a way it doesn’t in London or New York

Au Contraire, The Bloods are the original AFL team, South Melbourne United are the original soccer team that Hellenic and Ajax merged with in 1959 to form South Melbourne Hellas....

Yep....In Central London you'd barely know Wimbledon was on unless you were changing to the District Line at Earls Court Tube....
