Really encouraging to see our players linked to big leagues all over Europe, im hoping we evolve to the stage and we start to see our players move away from these 2nd division or 3rd of 4th tiers leagues into the top divisions especially that their clubs are able to compete in continental leagues.

There are also 30 - 40 big clubs outside the Big Five in UEFA, who play a fair bit of Champ League and Europa League match comp intra-continental football.

Bos's Feyenoorde is one of them.

Alessandro Circati is going fairly well at Parma though.

It's an exception because he was raised there. Most Australians without Italian heritage get treated like dirt. They have big benches which gives the manager too much opportunity to rotate and the second half of the table simply exist to make up the numbers and are a waste of time every season.

Hes dominated at 2 world cups now, has premier league experience on his cv and a previous big transfer fee. Thats enough for a lowly serie A side coach to give him an extended run of games and we all know harry is easily good enough for that level. Italian league suits a low block defender like him, he'll be fine amd it will be a good move, injury gods permitting.

His performances at the WC should supersede Serie A - whose 50% of Italian domestic players cannot even qualify for the last 3 WCs, despite winning a Euro Champs in between.

Colombia, USA, Japan, Turkey, Canada, USA, Paraguay and Egypt have been tougher competition than the mid- ranked and lower ranked Serie A clubs.

I'm not suggesting he isn't good enough but Italy is just less ideal as Italy has numerous factors such as big benches, cultural differences and an ad hoc survival mentality that is devoid of building anything up. We saw it with Hrustic. The Sainbury saga should never have happened. Souttar is likely to be fine there but England or Germany would be better.

There's been a lot of discussion about the quality of leagues and clubs our players play at. This is shaping up as a really interesting transfer period.

Circati (Atletico, PSG) and Herrington (Barcelona, Liverpool, you name it) have both been rumoured targets of top top teams in big 5 leagues.

Beach (Troyes) has moved to a top 5 league. Circati (Palma) and Volpato (Sassuolo, rumoured Fiorentina) are already there.

Ryan, Okon-Engstler (Koln), Souttar (Cagliari) are strongly rumoured to make transfers to teams in big 5 leagues.

Irankunda (Sporting Lisbon), Devlin (Rangers) and Bos (Feyenoord) are at or rumoured to be at big clubs with European pedigree.

Irvine goes down. It's unknowm where Metcalfe will land.

Theres water to go under the bridge and who knows how the cards will fall but its encouraging.

Whats wild is we knew the qualities of these guys. If they make the moves rumoured I don't think we're inherently more talented than what we were at the World Cup. But we'd look better on paper. I think this team is capable of more than we've seen from them.

I feel optimistic reading this post!

Well that shows they're damn serious. Will he be alright with the language and cultural barrier along with his attitude? The trouble is as a foreigner you don't get much leeway with stepping out of line and they have the buying power and production line to replace him in a heartbeat.

Cagliari played a back 3 and currently have 3 somewhat decent centre backs so a Souttar transfer makes sense for them.

Spot on.Playing for a Feyenoord, or even more so an Ajax or Sporting is indicative of a player being a WAYYYY higher level than playing at say Troyes or St Pauli, even if troyes and st pauli are/were in top 5 leagues

Souttar has much more compelling cv than Sainsbury did, and even more so than that, Sainsbury wemt to Inter, Souttar going to Cagliari... big big difference!!

I speak a little Portuguese so was excited to go there to practice on my roadtrip after driving to Bilbao for the Ange Europa League Final.

To my disappointment found out that most Portuguese speak fluent English.. their government made it the official 2nd language like India, a generation ago. Very different to Spain where barely anyone speaks English.

He will have zero problem, and the weather there is like Sydneys. Possibly the best city to play in in the entire world when you combine the club, weather, culture, people etc.

I’d read less into that, he isn’t coming from Adelaide United.

That sort of money is what it takes to pry a young talent away from the Championship. Even more than that in many cases.

Not saying they don’t rate him, but that’s more the English tax.

On language, Marcus Edward’s played for Sporting and as far as I know he doesn’t speak Portuguese.
