World Cup 2026 Australia thread

Looks like we’re gonna play Brazil in Townsville and Brisbane in September!!!
Have to decide if I'm going to keep up the trend of attending all home games. Could be a 6 day QLD visit coming up. Don't know yet if we will play any more games in that window as we can play up to 4.

I'm fairly confident of beating Egypt.

As ever, would love an early goal to settle the nerves.
There absolutely should be an air of trepidation in relation to this match, a lot of supporters are getting far too confident & that’s probably because ¾ of Egypts squad don’t play in European leagues

Even if salah is out, they have weapons that can hurt Australia. In saying that though , Egypt do have a habit of choking tournaments lol

ah yeah - it's the first window of this new calendar with these 4x matchdays.

Perhaps a friendly against an Arab/Gulf nation on the way back to Europe?

Shame about Uzbekistan. They had a tough group and some bad luck along the way. Hoped to see them achieve a bit more.
Their last game showed they still have a long way to go to be genuinely competitive at this level. They disintegrated against a pretty mediocre African side. They’re simply not good enough (yet).

Then against Italy, VAR would've picked up that Grosso took extra steps, changed direction then left a trailing leg when he fell over Lucas.

No penalty, we win in extra time with fresh legs, then thrash Ukraine and lose to Germany in the semi.

The entire future of the game in Oz would have profoundly changed.

I don’t think the penalty would be overturned. It was a dive, but there was just enough contact to give VAR an out. They would have stayed with the original decision, especially since it was Italy.

Neill really fucked up there. There was no earthly reason to go for a slide.

Grosso initiated the contact by trailing his leg (after changing direction). That would've been picked up.
