Had the AFL account uploaded that graphic 2-3 days ago, Çalhanoğlu could be excused for assuming that’s the Socceroos’ XI he was facing today

Maybe this is why Mike Grella has never heard of our players?
I dont know the sport, but was there any logic behind how they decided which afl was a 6, which a cb and which a box2box mid?
Yeah. Cameron as a #9 is correct - he basically plays around the goal square; Draper as GK is a complete mystery; the rest are pretty much spot on. BUT given that right now the three most exciting small players are all indigenous (Pickett 1, Pickett cousin, Nasaiah) where are they on the line up? Pretty white line up.I dont know the sport, but was there any logic behind how they decided which afl was a 6, which a cb and which a box2box mid?
Sam Draper plays as a ruck so they would have thought that his height made him the ideal fit to be the keeper but there are arguably better rucks in the AFL they could've gone for instead.Draper as GK is a complete mystery
There's logic to it. The positions are as close to analogous as they get. The CBs are the best full backs. The mids are the best most skillful or athletic mids (I dont think its a mistake they picked ethnic mids). The forwards the best forwards, including an ex-junior round-ball footballer in Rachele. The full backs the best half backs in AFL. The GK is a ruck. I've often wondered how Daicos and Petracca would have gone in football. Daicos is so smart and skillful would be an excellent 10 imo.I dont know the sport, but was there any logic behind how they decided which afl was a 6, which a cb and which a box2box mid?
As a longtime Bergers fan, Peter Daicos surely wouldn’t have begrudged Nick going w/I've often wondered how Daicos and Petracca would have gone in football. Daicos is so smart and skillful would be an excellent 10 imo.
Donald's a town in western Victoria a couple of hours from the South Australia border.I've seen the insecure AFL zombies crawl out of the woodwork on Twitter over the past 24 hours, as well as some deadshit from some cowpoke town(Donald, I'd not heard of it before) in VIC writing in to the Herald-Sun having a sook that his inherently-"superior" AFL game isn't known by 99.9% of the global populace.
It's worth noting that to the utter best of my recollection, there really wasn't much at all of this carry-on during Qatar '22...and frankly that's no coincidence![]()
Daicos - Bergers.... underrated comment of the weekend ... chef's kiss.As a longtime Bergers fan, Peter Daicos surely wouldn’t have begrudged Nick going w/️ instead.
James Hird’s son Alex did though; I believe he’s currently on the books at Bentleigh Greens after having spent time w/Melbourne Knights.
So not all that far from Riley McGree’s neck of the woods, I assumeDonald's a town in western Victoria a couple of hours from the South Australia border.
Nowhere near. Riley McGree's hometown is Adelaide suburbia these days. Only a Craig Goodwin corner kick from the Barossa. So not all that far from Riley McGree’s neck of the woods, I assume
Maybe FIFA can organise a wildcard entry for them next world cup. FIFA surley know all the best athletes in Australia play AFL.There's logic to it. In all seriousness, they ought to play a charity-match vs. an NRL-equivalent XI. But neither code/organisation currently has the foresight(let alone balls) to actually go through with it.Maybe FIFA can organise a wildcard entry for them next world cup. Why would they risk injury?? Honestly love the passion but some of these comments are a bit weirdIn all seriousness, they ought to play a charity-match vs. an NRL-equivalent XI. But neither code/organisation currently has the foresight(let alone balls) to actually go through with it.
They’re at it again
Only time will tell if this and other such recent instances ie. Toby Greene are a sign of things of come but if history is any indicator, then not bloody likely(sincerely hope I'm wrong thoI just came across this - too funny for a change re this flog of a game.

"It's a disgrace": AFL player slams league for World Cup fixture clash
"They want attendance. They want people to watch. No one is watching. Everyone is watching the World Cup."www.zerohanger.com
Can’t remember if I have posted in this thread before? Many of you may remember the Simon Hill article that he wrote back in 2005, regarding the constant hate football gets from its rival codes ie. Australian Rules and Rugby League, plus the mainstream media.
Football is often called the "sleeping giant" of Australian sport, and when football gets it right, the people will come in their thousands, and at the amateur participant level, football is the most popular sport in Australia. I'm from Sydney, and if you drive through most Sydney suburbs, you mostly find football fields (often shared with cricket ovals), not that many Rugby League fields, and very few AFL ovals.
Realistically, football will not become the biggest football code in Australia any time soon (at the spectator level), as it is up against the entrenched codes of Australian Rules and Rugby League, especially AFL.
Me personally, I don't think the AFL fears football, as they are the most cashed up and powerful sporting organisation in the country, with all its billions, the AFL has the government and media in their pockets. Look at how hard the AFL is pushing for a team in Tasmania, and how they are lobbying the government for funding (in spite of the fact that most Tasmanians want the money spent on more important things like hospitals, schools, roads etc), but you know what?, the AFL will get that funding (aka corporate welfare), because they can.
So what do you think gents?, do the other football codes (ALF and NRL), fear football?
