World Cup 2026 Australia thread

20 years today since the Japan match in Kaiserslautern! What a day!!
I remember catching a tram in Frankfurt to the train station, feeling very sympathetic for Matthew Johns as he was there dressed up in full Reg Reagan costume with sweat dripping off him, a 3 hour supporters train trip to Kaiserslautern, Hanging around town for a bit before the hellish climb to the stadium (they must have the fittest supporters in Europe), loading up on fluids once I got in, sitting about 2 rows up from George Negus at the end where no goals were scored, our great late comeback, watching a later game in a pub as the fan fest was chockers, then the train trip back to Frankfurt arriving around midnight. A great day.

Australia kits hung up on the living room window railing and flag on the window sill plate weighed down by Ange and Simon Hill biographies. Anything to ward off bad spirits. Got a pint of chicken blood and a voodoo drum just in case. World cup can start now.

Haha I have tongive the footy show guys they always got around the socceroos especially back then.

Always interesting to see so many people in places I've been many times before but after the time they went there.

My maths teacher flew over and back then I didn't know how long or how a flight that far was and had the imagination that it was the most exhausting thing would write you off for days.

Whatever you think about Behich as a footballer, this interview shows he's a genuinely good fella with a lot of smarts, and a lot of passion for the shirt
Yeah it's true. The issue has been that he's had periods of complacency but being favoured by coaches hasn't allowed others to get a run.

Elder's injury curse is insane. The lack of competition makes players complacent. The same happened with Leckie and even Boyle for a time.

Behich is either getting better with age, or the Socceroos are getting worse ? idk
We will see what his 1 or 2 blunders look like at this WC. You can't fault his dedication and work rate out there.

I seem to remember a Behich back pass the last WC turning into an instant goal in one of the early games lol cant recall this game.
KInda redeemed himself in our 2026 qualifiers I guess

The second France goal came from Atkinson. Behich started the back pass for the Ryan error when he had Mooy just ahead of him.

The second France goal also came from Irvine asking for it then just sending it away to Atkinson. Souttar was essentially at the corner flag.

While going long turns over possession too I'd rather just clear danger than try this risky stuff.
