Socceroos vs Turkey 2026 World Cup match thread 🇦🇺🇹🇷

Satire? If not then why was he playing in the J1 League.

I do think his international career was too short given he played in the Bundesliga for many years but he wasn’t benching Maty Ryan.

Langerak was in the J1 League and breaking all sorts of records at the time. in 2022, Ryan was the backup keeper at Copenhagen and wasn't getting regular games.

Ryan is the clear number 1 now. no doubt. But in 2022 he wasn't. Langerak retired from international football because Arnold refused to pick him.

I think Langerak was a better shot stopper than sweeper.

All the new keepers are better as sweepers.

A 25min bench cameo with a goal is more than 65min of nothing from the start but I can't help but think we need our best out there most of the time. Irankunda looks to start against the USA. I'd actually start Mabil and Velupillay here and tell them they've got an hour to run at the Turks every time they get the ball.

This formation is so isolating though. If the front 3 go forward the midfield 2 are just too deep or lack any kind of technical skill to score. We should start Devlin at 6, Irvine at 8 and one inside forward on the right and Bos can roam more forward.

I wonder how the ref's temperament will go with the Turkish one? Chinese refs tend to implode and are devoid of any rational decisions once things start cracking.

TOMORROW!!!!
Tomorrow is opening day of the World Cup proper with the return leg of the opening fixture of the 2010 cycle between Mexico and South Africa, then Cup Fever! makes its triumphant return to our screens and it's only a matter of time before the Socceroos get their campaign underway.
