Matildas friendlies in June 2026

Can be hard to tell when at the game, but I don't recall Kerr heading toward goal a single time after receiving the ball. Gameplan seem to be nothing other than take the ball wide, cross back into the middle hoping someone is there and then piss about with it before taking a shot.

EVE needs to be phased out. Doesn't create anything, stifles every attack and can't hit the target.

We should have phased out Emily van Egmond heading into the Women's Asian Cup or during the April international window instead of retaining her in the Matildas playing list and expecting her to play in the 2027 Women's World Cup.

Surely the Matildas hype train is out of steam now. They've been performing poorly for a very long time. It's time to get back to sensible and sustainable planning and play. Jaded, disjointed stuff for too long.
Except at the Asian Cup when we made the final and could’ve won. The hype train is still clearly there. But that’s not an excuse to be shit though. Part of keeping the massive support going should be building a team for the future. Women’s football is here and not going anywhere, but the talents keep getting better and we keep getting worse.

It’s time to move on from the hype. Our top players look totally unmotivated, so, if we want to keep the show on the road it’s time for rejuvenating. We have many young players just ‘ champing at the bit’ to prove their worth.
Nothing ventured ,nothing gained.
Ideally we shoulda picked an entirely under-23s and fringe FIFA Series squad. I want us to do that next window. We should play someone decent but not terrible (obviously it can’t be Mexico again but a similar or lower-ranked team, but not as bad as Kenya or Malawi) then pick a youthful squad.

The only reason why the Matildas are stagnating and falling behind compared to the likes of Japan, South Korea, the United States and the European powerhouse sides is because the selection policy continues to favour experience over youth and prioritises selecting the old guard, and if the Socceroos can start to promote youth prospects from the farm system to replace the older faces heading into a World Cup then I don't see why the Tillies can't follow suit.

The whole FA needs a dual international scouting team. Even though the Socceroos do bring new guys they’ve still buggered up several others.

Apart from struggling to lock in our promising dual international prospects early across the board the main difference between the Socceroos and the Matildas is that Tony Popovic has managed to bring in names like Mo Toure and Nestory Irankunda to replace Mitch Duke for example, whereas Montemurro will always insist on fielding Emily van Egmond in midfield and Mackenzie Arnold between the sticks ahead of the likes of Shelby McMahon and Ilona Melegh.

I feel like if we had him at the last World Cup we’d’ve picked the same squad as Tony Gustavsson did.

Good crowd in Newcastle last night. It is a pity the Matildas was so poor.It was noticeable when Montemurro was talking to the squad post game several looked stony faced and when he finished Carpenter rolled her eyes and pulled a face.Is there some problem between the coach and the old guard.

I’ll have to watch it but Ellie’s usually a pretty chill gal so that sounds like she’s pretty annoyed.
