Matildas friendlies in June 2026

Is Van Egmond still playing for Australia? Geez.
I cannot fathom how or why. She is so far below the rest of the team in every aspect. She breaks down our play. She couldn't shoot snot from a lightly blocked nostril. I need to stop typing before I reveal how I actually feel..

Full time at McDonald Jones Stadium, with the Matildas losing to Mexico for only the second time in their history and the first time since 2004 after Diana Ordonez scored the only goal of the match in the second minute of second half stoppage time. The result means that both the Socceroos and Matildas have now lost against Mexico by the same scoreline in the space of a week.

Clearly there is something wrong with the Matildas selection policy if Emily van Egmond continues to make the playing list for every international window ahead of our promising youth prospects from the farm system like Shelby McMahon and Peta Trimis who should have been promoted to the senior national team setup along with Ilona Melegh heading into our friendlies against Mexico.

Kerr is definitely well past her best.
Holly McNamara should be starting ahead of Sam Kerr for the Matildas and eventually Skye Halmarick will be replacing her altogether in the playing list heading into future major tournament cycles.

Surely the Matildas hype train is out of steam now. They've been performing poorly for a very long time. It's time to get back to sensible and sustainable planning and play. Jaded, disjointed stuff for too long.

That was a very poor performance and it’s time to start using players who have just been sitting on the bench.
I am at a loss as to know what Montemurro is trying to achieve. These types of games should be used to bring in a new set of players to weld into the type of game that will carry us through the next phase of international football

Totally disagree, she should not have been exposed that much by the defence.
The only reason why Mackenzie Arnold was exposed that much by our defensive line is because we gave the opposition too much space inside the box and were unable to intercept key passes that eventually led to them finding the back of the net.

Then you can’t put the blame on Arnold.

I'm not putting all the blame on Mackenzie Arnold but after making numerous key saves throughout the match she should have been able to keep a clean sheet despite being failed by the Matildas' defensive line.

To me that does sound like you are putting the blame on Arnold. I think you will have to admit it was a dreadful performance from the start and no amount of blame shifting can change that.

Agree that the Matildas were listless throughout the first half and even after improving in the second half struggled to convert chances into shots at goal, and we'll have to bounce back for the second of our two friendlies against Mexico at CommBank Stadium on Tuesday.

It’s time to move on from the hype. Our top players look totally unmotivated, so, if we want to keep the show on the road it’s time for rejuvenating. We have many young players just ‘ champing at the bit’ to prove their worth.
Nothing ventured ,nothing gained.

I am hoping, at the least, that the team finishing this game are the players he will start with next game and he used this game as a genuine transition moment.

Based on history, I don't like my chances.
