2026 World Cup Squad

Ideally we need a creative midfielder who is good at chance creation and can act as a playmaker in the Socceroos playing list for our World Cup campaign, and currently the only options we have are Kai Trewin and Cam Devlin after Popovic made the mistake of culling Alex Robertson from the pre-camp.
Trewin and Devlin are not creative midfield playmakers. Far from it, in fact.

Hope it’s all of them
Nish has probably been one of our best forward when on the pitch. Not saying he’s our best, but he’s probably played the best overall in every game on average (game time to goals scored, assists etc. And also setting up plays with creativity). Has never really come on and gone missing or played shit

Velupillay is a bit of a wildcard. Handy type. I'd like to see him face Mexico as he hasn't played many big opponents yet.

This game should prioritise exposure for Velupillay, Okon, Italiano.

Nestory Irankunda? Mo Touré?
Toure is better. But look at all the games, I reckon Nish has been great.

Irankunda for me has been disappointing. He’s been better against shit opposition.

I am not saying Nish is better than them but he’s been consistently good for the national team.

On a league form - no way. On Socceroos. Has to stay.

I'm seeing all these starting XI's online and all of them have either Irankunda or Volpato on the left. Aren't they both right sided? I've seen Nestory switch to the left for a few minutes during matches but that's it.

Surely it’s not a huge issue playing one on the wrong side if we desperately have to.

I'm nervous about Italiano picking up an injury. There isn't much cover there.

He's always performed for the national team though, I'm certainly no Victory fan and he's had a shit season, but I don't mind it compared to others.

AI Overview

Nestory Irankunda primarily plays on the right wing for Watford, but he has also logged significant minutes on the left flank and as a central forward. [1, 2, 3]
A breakdown of his positional versatility for the club shows how he has been utilized:
  • Right Wing: This is his primary position. He frequently starts or operates as an inverted winger on the right, which allows him to cut inside onto his stronger foot to shoot or create chances. [1, 2, 3]
  • Left Wing: He has been deployed on the left on several occasions, most famously making a game-changing, explosive impact down the left flank as a substitute against Norwich City, where he recorded a legendary 90th-minute cut-back assist. [1, 2, 3]
  • Central Forward: Under manager Javi Gracia, he has also spent time playing a central, hybrid role—somewhere between an inverted winger and a shadow striker. []

Sloppy from AI. He’s not left-footed.

Leckie has thrown away his spot for me.

Surely Borrello or Yengi will be included.

I fear Devlin is going to be left out.

Geria, Rowles or Degenek probably make way. Trewin is in.

Hrustic is fit so he'll make it but Popovic isn't impressed.

Has to be Tete Yengi.
