World Cup 2026 Australia thread

This may sound silly but from the limited minutes I have seen Garang looks on a different page and twice as athletic and faster than anyone else. My intial assessment was that Garang was wearing ice skates but physically he is ok.
His teammates don't counter and progress the ball with short passes, not particularly creative ones either.
As I argued before. Even if you don't pick him as a starter he is the perfect chaos agent when chasing a result. Even without a direct goal involvement he creates space for others.

I honestly keep forgetting out first game is in Canada. That lunch time kick off in Seattle could be hot. Stupid, contradictory kick offs. Bring a west cost game forward to lunch when there are plenty of domes around for early games during heat.

Just reading who Tuchel will be leaving out of the England squad. Then you look at our squad. Oh man. Best not to think about it too much.

Highlights how far we are from the so called Golden Generation. I guess what we have now is the terracotta generation.

I mean of course they've got superior individual players but they've also got more than double our population and they did invent the bloody thing so you'd hope they would be pretty good at it.

I don't think we're actually that far from the GG at all. You could argue there is a high likelihood that within the next 3 years we could have quite a few playing in the top leagues. Circati, Bos, Irankunda, Toure, Herrington, McGree could be after tomorrow night and who knows who else possibly.

There is a swell coming, has been for a bit, of very talented footballers both female and male up through the pathways and if they all follow the names above then the next 10 years looks pretty fucking bright from where I'm seeing....lets not talk about off the field.

Good for these blokes to be relaying information. The FA interviews have also been excellent and the pace of content is picking up. I don't think we've heard from Popovic for a bit but it'll come.

FIFA Rankings before 2022 WC and now:
2022: AUS 38; FRA 4; DEN 10; TUN 30; ARG 3. AUS finished 11/32 from a ranking of 38
Makes me fel a lot better for Nth America:
2026: AUS 27; TUR 22; USA 16; PAR 40
(Current ELO rankings: AUS 26; TUR 14; PAR 22; USA 41- FIFA and ELO favour different confederations)

Easy to forget we finished the group in 2022 tied on points with the losing finalist.

For some reason it only hit me now:

I had thought back that if Leckie did not score that goal, we'd have been knocked out. In actuality, we still would have advanced on Goals Scored.

I guess it's kind of like Kennedy's goal against Iraq to qualify for Brazil 2014 - it won us the match, but in the end, we'd have qualified without it (although the difference with this one is a loss to Denmark would have seen us knocked out, whereas a loss to Iraq would still have meant automatic qualification).

Point is that we're better than we give ourselves credit for :) and far better than the world sees us

We have made the round of 16 twice, but our history shows we are there just making up the numbers like the 2026 World Cup. Look i think everyone will enjoy the 3 games we are only there for. Getting out of the group or making the 16 again is beyond our reach - i think scoring 1 goal should be our main focus that way it will be a success.

No we would have missed out on goal difference. Tunisia was 0 and we would have been -2. Goal difference was before head to head in 2022.
