Asian Champions League 1 and 2 thread

I do wonder why FA advocated for Heidelberg when they surely knew the AFC regulations don't allow it. It's nice that FA tried, but what we're they expecting, AFC to change the rules for us?

they will still cry. Some of the chip on the shoulder commnets lol.

As if AFC give two fucks about MV or Heidelberg

I hope Victory take the ACL 2 seriously. I’ve got a feeling they will just play a bunch of kids and reserve players then hope for the best.

article 7.4 in the AFC Club Competition entry regulations 2025 (for the 2026/27 season) blocks Football Australia from doing this.

The 50% rule,
AFC strictly mandates that any club entering continental competition via sporting criteria (except for the cup winner itself) must finish in the top 50% of their nation's top division domestic league final standings and since Heidelberg United didn't win last years Australia Cup they are completely ineligible for an AFC club license.

You had called this a while back and were spot on. The rules are pretty clear. I don't understand why Heidelberg was allowed to go through this process when the rules were pretty clear. AFC compliance is quite onerous.

Actually, it’s really not. In fact, it’s the best club trophy you can win whilst playing in an AFC league.
Sorry, but it is actually garbage with barely any interest in it. I have attended more than a few, and it was mind numbing at best.

Its good for players especially kids coming through the ranks to be exposed to higher formats of the football pyramid.
More exposure to Asia's top flight is better for our league and the players involved which helps for nation team selection of all ages.

You win champions League Two you qualify for ACLE the next season.
Then that's even more reason why the A-League Men sides should be prioritising both AFC Champions League Elite and AFC Champions League Two in addition to the fact that it'll help with our coefficient which gives more teams the right to go and represent Australia in continental football.

Don't be so fuckin daft, that is the elite end of continental football. I do not agree with its current format though.
Well then it’s not really fair to say that the ACLE is rubbish. It’s kinda Eurosnobbish to be honest. Yes it’s obviously a far lower standard but football’s football. It’s OUR UCL, OUR Libertadores.
