That's one thing I felt. Always out of position. Shooting way over. I remember the U20 WC in 2009 and the captaincy had gone to his head. Either hogged the ball or passed back.

Wasn't he told to stop training so hard in The Netherlands as he was overdoing it? He matured well but was a really frustrating player for the national team.
Nah, Arnie told him to cut out the extra training sessions at the Mariners. His coach in the Netherlands (Van Gaal) told him he couldn’t shoot.

Celta Vigo take the lead with a swift ground cross and tap in from close range. Ryan was on the 6 yard line and the cross was swift just ahead of the penalty spot. I guess that's the kill zone but I wonder about keeper movement of shuffling on one's side rather than sprinting forwards to crosses.
Ryan shouldve stopped it. Had time and was close enough.

The other keeper was woeful in that game.

Hopefully they stay up.

I'd have taken that if it had been offered at the start of the season. Getting the numbers up.
I have been underwhelmed to be honest. His first year out of the youth league, sure has racked up some minutes and is playing at a reasonable level, however has managed only 1 goal and 2 assists this campaign. Was expecting enough to see him in the calculations for the WC. Will quite possibly go to Florida but certainly hasn't kicked on since the last World Cup. Very similar numbers to those he got in the eredivisie two seasons ago. Would be fantastic to see him constantly in Socceroos discussions come Asian Cup.

Agreed.

It seems that often the kids we consider "wonderkids" seem to drop off and never really reach their potential. This seems especially true for the guys we tend to take as bolters in world cup squads.

Examples: Nathan Burns, Ben Halloran, Arzani, Kuol.

Did anyone really consider Nathan Burns a wonderkid?

I exempt Arzani from the discussion as I reckon he was the real deal until his ACL - never the same afterwards.

I'd also suggest the jury is out on Kuol as he's still pretty young and has had some bad moves. Seems to be picking up momentum in the last part of the season.

Still feels like a bad luck charm. Younis should be grateful he can kick-on now without that juju.

Yes they did with Burns. At 18 he was really something as a prospect.

Arzani definitely lost his explosive acceleration. Some players come back from sn ACL and some don't. Okon was never the same player.

Kuol left way too early. He's going nowhere fast. He would be well advised to follow Mooys example m

There was nothing like the hype for Burns as there was for Arzani and Kuol.
