Matilda's abroad

You rarely see huge wins (4–0 or more) in the Dub, even in games like City vs Wanderers, so I’d say no. The players probably put in more effort week in week out knowing they could get a raise. Either way it’s gotta change, they have to be paid at least $100,000 if not much more per year. If they’re only making $25,000 a year on average then I make more far money than the average Dub player which is crazy cause I’m an ordinary bloke in Sydney.
What would be a sustainable wage for an ALW player ?

I expected this, though I don’t expect Caitlin Foord to renew. Her and her partner (Katie McCabe) are both probably leaving (likely for the NWSL). Sam Kerr will go with them alongside her son Jagger and her partner Kristie Mewis who I think is retired now as she hasn’t played since she was at West Ham where she mostly sat on the bench. But who knows, maybe LCL will snatch them up with Michelle Kang’s money.

The base wage in the Northern Super League is about $50,000 so even if we matched that it would be a big improvement but the problem is the club owners see the women’s teams as a drain on resources.
$50,000 is a big improvement though that still means the players are relatively poor in today’s world. That’s just over the Australian annual minimum wage though it’s double the current average A-League Women player’s salary. While you do pay less taxes at $50,000 a year, things like groceries and fuel are pretty expensive (though petrol and even diesel prices are finally dropping thankfully).

So the bottom line is that our female players are being paid half the minimum wage so is that even legal?

I’d say so given volunteering (working for free) is legal in some capacities. Championship/NPL players are also semi-pro so they’re not alone. But yeah they really do need to be paid above minimum wage and not have to work two jobs. Maybe $85,000? That’s relatively normal and working or middle class these days.
