Rivalry Watch

Senegal beat Peru 2:0 at Stade de France and a big crowd as you'd expect. They paraded with their now annulled AFCON trophy.
 
African teams having a mixed window. Ghana got thumped 5:1 by Austria and now have to face Germany.
 
France 3 Colombia 1. No shame in losing to France and Croatia but maybe something of a ceiling being presented to Colombia.

The world cup is getting closer and see and the match ups is really exciting. Uzbekistan Colombia first up and I hope Uzbekistan can avoid stage fright.

Maybe so at times but you don't pull off a 7 game winning streak against good euro NT's not working as a rotating squad.

Imagine that by the Roos one day - yer imagine.
They got Netherlands in their GrpF, they'll finish top or 2nd worst case scenario.

The case for Japan is that they still choke when it matters in knock out stages. Their tournament ROI is poor given their advancement. Their challenge is still to create the best team as they have so many individuals. Maybe that time will come.

They didn't beat Australia in qualifying. Maybe just luck on our end. Silly mistakes have cost the past 3 Asian Cups.

People talk down friendlies. Suddenly they've got more merit?
 
To be fair, England friendlies have always been better than sleeping pills. Japan have a knack for turning up and showing up opponents and good on them. Perhaps the audition to make the squad proper gives that extra drive.

To be fair Japan have been playing with more discipline and cohesion in recent times, and were able to stifle the European and South American powerhouses but only time will tell whether they'll be able to sustain this form come the World Cup.

And to think Australia beat them and went very close away as well.

Here's me accepting emergency relief class tomorrow morning while I had intended to stay up for Dr Congo Jamaica but also wake up for Arnie at 5am. I think the latter slots in nicely before work and Arnie deserves the support. I so hope he makes it.
 
Japan ran out 1-0 winners over England at Wembley, inflicting their first loss ever against Asian opposition and first loss at the venue under Thomas Tuchel. Kaoru Mitoma scoring the only goal of the game in the 23rd minute.
