A-league attendances

Also paying big money for a product that no one was watching, will never see that sort of money again, unless they improve the product

Again, fudging figures. We have 12 teams and that is how you gauge it.
Not fudging anything. It's another set of figures. I know some can't grasp it but it's there for those interested.

It's comparing like with like for the 10 oldest clubs, the growth/decline of them individually and as a group.

To each their own then.
FWIW, it is only a twenty year old league, and it is still miles ahead of its predecessor.
Peaks and troughs will happen as they do in all leagues in minor football countries.

Agree with "peaks and troughs", same thing happened in J-League and MLS etc. It's just disappointing that we're still digging the trough.

Back in the day Fox was the king broadcaster for sometime till other mediums came to be but the real kicker and lead was they also had the EPL and many of us watching leading into epl koffs.

I'm not sure if others will agree but TV when Fox were king was just somehow more seamless. TV and box on and go. Sure now it's TV, App and go but I find TV using internet still offers too much of a lag.

I think some have perfect experiences but the apps such as DAZN, Paramount, Sky and others are full of bugs where rewinding isn't as easy as when it was on a cable receiver recording.

let's have a look how we got here

This isn't even including mismanagement by clubs etc roars owners, bucket boy and wsw etc
the GFC didn't help

agree it was that much easier back then - sure people complained of the cost, well IF you went the whole hog it was expensive but I fine tuned my package alot and was happy to pay - infact I still have Fox.
Funnily now with the more offerings/apps you near on spend what people complained of the costs when just Fox !

Have smart TV, then you jump to P+/Apple/Netfilx/Prime/Amazon/Stan etc PIA !!!!

Very good summary

I'd also say the short sightedness of not investing more in youth from the start. Needed academies from day 1 and a home and away nyl had long term impacts

I suspect one reason it peaked at a high level was because the socceroos team was at a high level. This also had knock on effects - the fact we didn't make the olympics two tournaments in a row meant funding was pulled for the ais

We hopefully start to see a bump in a few years as the roos get to a slightly higher level. A home and away NYL would be costly, but probably be worth it in transfer value and long term benefits

It is very hard to get the a league to think long term throughout its entire existence

Lowy cash gone = league struggling.

Ain't rocket science, look how much $$$ is being pumped in to MLS.

Wrexham another example.

Palmer would have been good for the league had he not been a nutcase.

There have been rumours that Dazn (owners of Foxtel now) are not happy with the deals done with the AFL & NRL because they are limited markets. Whereas football, they can tuck the AL into overseas bundles.

I've heard similar opinions about DAZN's thoughts on NRL and AFL.

And I'm pretty sure that the NRL will eventually end up on Stan Sports with NINE obviously their FTA partner.

The AFL is a different landscape but I reckon a partnership between SEVEN/TEN and P+ could be a thing....

I'm not sure why DAZN bought Foxtel...

Their mission internationally seems to be about Football and Boxing and not much else.

Interesting discussions around the AFL re lower crowds and fuel costs. Big worries about gather round. Ideas getting thrown around about clubs offering fuel vouchers and encouraging people to car pool to games. To take public transport.

Also flight disruptions could become a thing as the year progresses. AFL ruling out Covid hubs, but some talk of what to do with west coast teams.

Probably good the a league is finishing before the worst of this may hit. But will most likely impact finals.

If a crisis is coming you can be sure the AFL will be the first to know
