Official South Melbourne Hellas thread 🔵⚪

What do you mean 9 days without Hellas? 9 days IN A ROW??? They better organise a couple of friendlies or something I cant stay home THAT long. hahahahahahah
Unfortunately they'll be playing Round 4 of the Dockerty Cup. Given it will be the winner between Berwick City and Hampton East Brighton, I think our first Starting XI can have the week off.

I suppose we dont want to sink the documentary before its even started.

Lets wait for the squads to come out before we declare results. Absolutely agree 7-8 starters have to remain. The teams we put out against Hume and Altona will not win at gully or thunder.
We got a bit lucky with Altona being reduced to 10 men but it still required the young players to stand up and play.

You’re right - we won’t defeat Gully or Thunder with that Starting XI against Altona. The only problems I foresee is given the squad will be so stretched between both competitions, the coaching staff may not be able to make too many substitutions. We won’t get the benefit of fresh legs.

I was looking at the fixtures for the Honiara hub. Solomon Kings in third (14 points played 9 matches) spot play two matches that are both against Hellas (18 points played 8 matches) and Auckland (19 points played 8 matches) above them.

If they lose both matches against Hellas and Auckland, as well as Hellas beating Vanuatu, that would mean we would have a gap of 10 points from 3rd spot with a match in hand. In the last hub, we would play largely the last 2-3 teams (plus Auckland). A significantly weakened Hellas squad could pick up 3-5 points to ensure we finish second. That last hub in Fiji overlaps the Preston and Oakleigh matches.

Nobody is "declaring" anything take it easy .. just stating they are winnable matches even with a 3/4 squad.

Bonada for NPL is key for these games i would argue! Eliopoulos menelaou also here! Do you keep Lopez is another question to balance side ldft behind? Mikkola out has created a bit of a dilemma...

Im in 3 minds still..
Do we go full out this hub and cement second spot and possibly drop points these 2 games in NPL with mediocre side... or do we go take these points (NPL) here and then drop/rest vs preston choakleigh who are focus on NPL anyway and we can deal with come finals so we dont burn playrs out by that stage and risk comgestion at OFC top of table? Orrrrr do we half bake both split the squad and perhaps suffer in 2 fronts and have to make ground up in final hub???

Im leaning towards the first option personally... thoughts?

NPL over OFC for me.. there is almost NO chance of us not making the top 3 in OFC now even if we drop points here or there... save the "hail Mary" squad until the SF-Final hub and then go all out... By then, hopefully, we've solidified our table position and sorted out who lies where in NPL ...

What is interesting is that whatever dilemna's we had during the Australia based OFC HUB are greatly accentuated now that half our club is based overseas for the next 3 hubs.

There is no doubt in my mind that we take our main squad to OFC hub's for upcoming Honiara and the Final's, but take our Under 23 squad to the last HUB before playoffs/Finals.

I'm still of the opinion for 3-4 first team starters heading to Honiara and the remaining first team players remaining. We can handle both competitions (NPL - Gully and Thunder; OFC Pro League - Vanuatu United and Solomon Kings). However, for the following Fiji hub, there is a clash with the Preston and Oakleigh fixtures, which will mean we will likely be sending our weakest squad. By then, we should have second spot in the OFC Pro League pretty much locked in.
